  2. From the landowners perspective, what are the drawbacks to indentured servitude? • Your servant may run away • He/she may not work as hard as you want • He/she may die once they get to the colonies • Youhave to provide for them • You must reward them at the end of the indenture.

Think about it…Why does indentured servitude end as a labor system in the colonies? • Your worker goes free after a period of time and needs to be replaced • You have to provide them while they labor for you • You have to give them land and provisions when their time is up • YOU LOSE MONEY • Your worker never needs to be replaced endless supply of free labor • African is easily identified and followed • Only need to provide the basic necessities of survival • Gain money in the long run Indentured Labor Why the switch to slavery?
