Can Delta 8 be Compared to "Bath Salts" in the Hemp Market?

First things first: contrary to popular belief, Delta 8 is not likely to cause you to bite people's faces like the famed Miami guy who was reportedly high on delta 8 bath salts, Rudy Eugene. (We're not talking about the kind of bath salts you use to relax in the tub, by the way.) But have we caught your interest?

  1. Good. At this point, you have probably heard about Delta 8. People can't stop talking about it on Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms. It's the best thing to happen to bread in a long time. The benefits of CBD have long been known. Actually, no; the CBD industry is basically swamped with useless products. The likes of Martha Stewart, Travis Barker, Kristen Bell, and a slew of other celebrities are just the latest to get in on the CBD action, hoping to cash in on the craze among fans of their respective fields. What a sweltering day. Anywho, getting back on track: In other words, 8. You've probably heard about THC unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years. THC, or delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is the major psychoactive component in cannabis. It's responsible for that euphoric sensation, or "high."

  2. So, tell me, just what is Delta 8? In the case of THC, Delta 8, like Cherry Pie Delta 8, is an isomer. In chemistry, two identical molecules with a distinct atomic configuration are said to be isomers of one another. Therefore, Delta 8 is simply another kind of THC. Although the effects of Delta 8 are subtler and milder than those of Delta 9, they are nonetheless somewhat intoxicating and undeniably still THC. If Delta 8 is still THC, then why is it sold in places like supermarkets, service stations, and CBD shops? Doesn't the THC content in hemp have to be below 0.3%? The shortsightedness of the law is the solution to these issues. Since Delta 8 is theoretically produced from industrial hemp but is neither specifically listed nor prohibited in the farm bill, it occupies a legal limbo. While individuals with a focus on profit may welcome legal ambiguity, those in the CBD sector who have battled long and hard to make it possible to sell the substance lawfully, as well as law enforcement, may find it unsettling. However, hold on there; if Delta 8 is present in hemp naturally, then it should be allowed. Here's the catch, though. Due to its low natural abundance in plants, delta 8 has proven

  3. difficult to synthesise in large quantities or to extract in meaningful amounts. Almost all commercially available Delta 8 is man-made. To make one, you simply: In the process of isomerization, you subject a single cannabinoid, such as CBD or THC found in hemp, through a number of chemical processes. To review, an isomer is the same molecule but with a different atomic order. Essentially, you're dissolving cannabinoids like Delta 9 THC or CBD, which are naturally occurring and sourced from hemp, in a solvent and then frying them in a strong acid to generate isomers like Cherry Pie Delta 8 or even Delta 10. Although many sellers and extractors refer to Delta 8 as a distillate or extract, it is not a genuine distillate because it does not result from the fractionation and separation of chemicals from the original whole plant extract. A real CBD distillate, for instance, starts with 2-5% THC (a true full spectrum extract) and concludes with less than 0.3%, making it farm bill / federally compliant. Although Delta 8 is neither as harmful or as similar to bath salts as the blog's title would lead you to believe, the premise of Delta 8 is similar to the designer drug market. In a secret lab, a scientist may produce an isomer of a popular illegal substance like Ecstasy or DMT. However, owing of the little adjustment to the chemical formula, this compound is not yet considered prohibited. The slightly modified drug mixture is then sold lawfully as "bath salts" in a vape shop or gas station, at least until the DEA and other law enforcement authorities declare it unlawful, or until someone chews another person's face off... Although its name is somewhat sensational, Delta 8 is actually only Delta 9 THC that has been slightly modified at the molecular level. Bath salts for the hemp business, if you will.

  4. Sky-Is-The-Limit for Delta 8's Advertisement Delta 8 is being promoted both as a dietary supplement and a recreational drug. For instance, the Georgia-based CBD company Luna offers a "Sky High" tincture with 1500 milligrammes of delta 8. How would you characterise the message that their advertising is delivering to their customers? Intoxicating, however less likely to cause paranoia than Delta 9 THC. But "sky high" tinctures like Luna CBD's are just begging for trouble with the law. Keep in mind that the legal threshold for THC in any form, including the delta 9 isomer and the other isomers like delta 8 and delta 10, is 0.3%, so anything produced from hemp should have less than that. There has been no change to the THC content. A lot of attention is being focused on the hemp business as it is. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has released a study indicating that high-THC cannabis is being transported across states under the pretext of "legal hemp." Delta 8 will only make things worse for the CBD business, which is already under scrutiny from authorities. It is not

  5. necessarily moral or ethical to take advantage of a legal loophole, even if one may be reasonably anticipated. I believe that avarice and the tremendous saturation of the CBD market are behind the recent boom in interest around delta 8. As a result of COVID-19 and the subsequent precipitous decline in CBD/hemp raw material prices, several companies in the sector have moved their attention to creating delta 8. Strong consumer interest has resulted in skyrocketing prices. As a whole, we believe in the medicinal potential of cannabinoids like Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC, but we must speak out against the simultaneous selling of Delta 8 THC and CBD generated from hemp. Outside of the legal cannabis industry, it seems counterproductive to sell delta 8. Instead of keeping your hemp-derived full-spectrum CBD oil next to your Delta 8, go to a dispensary.
