  2. Money Disbursals • Emergency funds: Rs. 1,78,525/- for expenses covered for 6months from July to dec. • First Installment: Rs.1,25,050/- sent in March. • Second Installments: 1,25,050/-+19,200/-

  3. Updates • Enrolment has increased mid year. • Constructions: 3-room classroom Shahpur, 2 mud-houses in Sukhdeopur, 2 rooms in Dobahi, repaired classroom in Pathrour. • There have been 12 teacher meetings and 6 meetings of library committee. • Library has 9175 books being circulated amongst schools. • Education awareness campaign held from 8-12 June, 2009 in 15 centers. • 4 health camps held and medicines distributed in all centers. • With help of 28 working members, health programs are being implemented. • Mid-day meal program is being tracked in 5 villages with ~900 children, by volunteers.   4. ..updates • Teacher training campaign held from 8th to 10th Jan 2010 in Shahpur. • Cultural program held on 25th Feb in Shahpur. • There have been 10 meetings of women groups from all villages in ‘09-’10. • There have been 332 meetings of 104 SHGs with 3472 members. • 62 units of vermicompost in 8 villages and 12 Nadep composts in 3 villages. Number of students at the beginning (for comparison with previous slide) Total Primary school students: 195 Total Junior school students: 68 52 students of Jhariya and Bhaganda villages of Shahpur kendra, Kumair Dist. (Bihar) are attending Shahpur kendra. 4 from Jhariya and 3 from Khada patthar are attending Junior High School.

  6. RTI activities • There have been 16 meetings in 16 villages with 625 participants. • There have been 6 training sessions in 6 villages and pamphlets have been distributed. • 24 applications filed. 5 resolved.14 different departments. • Participated in 3 panchayat level RTI sittings. • After RTI was filed, activities of Forest Department as a part of MNREGA was investigated by a 3-member team sent from Center, between 29th -31st August, ’09. • There was a formal inspection of all bank accounts and Gram Vikas Commissioner filed FIR against 17 officers on 15th September, ‘09.

  7. MNREGA activities • 21 meetings in 21 villages with 735 members. • Implemented with 7 trainers and volunteers with 126 participants. • Through MNREGA, several activities have been done with work related to departments like panchayat, forest, PWD, etc. Full –report: http://www.ashanet.org/projects-new/documents/458/VARUN_6m_update_Mar10.doc

  10. Additional requirements (2009-2010) • Shahpur center’s school, taken over by Govt., not in operation at the end of Oct. • Situation is not improving. Currently VARUN continues to operate it funds collected locally. Local people wants VARUN to provide at least 1 teacher next year also. Total amount: Rs.4,28,625 + Rs.19,200 (addl.)= Rs.4,47,825/-
