Carol of Lights, the Fourth of July at 1:00PM, in conjunction with the ceremonial ringing of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, and Summer Sunday evening concerts are another of the Tech traditions. A carillon is a musical instrument that has 23 bells that are arranged in chromatic sequence. It is located in the west tower of the administration building.

  9. What tradition started in 1959 when Harold Hinn came up with the idea (and provided the funds) to cover the science quadrangle and the administration building with lights?

  14. Double T Saddle Memorial It was dedicated by the Saddle Tramps to Double T (one of the many Masked Rider Horses).

  15. Who is thought to have created the Double T symbol?

  16. Texas Tech’s first football coach E.Y. Freeland No one was claimed credit for the design, but Coach Freeland is though to have created it because he put the Double T logo on the sweaters of the football players.

  17. Fight Song Fight, Raiders, Fight! Fight, Raiders, Fight! Fight for the school we love so dearly. You’ll hit ‘em high, you’ll hit ‘em low. You’ll push the ball across the goal, Tech, Fight! 21. Why was Raider Red created?

  22. In 1979, the Southwest Conference passed a rule that prevented members of the conference from taking live animals to non-home games unless the host team had no objections. Jim Gaspard (a member of the Saddle Tramps) created Raider Red from a drawing by the late Lubbock cartoonist Dirk West.

  29. Why was Will Rogers rotated?

  30. According to legend, the plan was to face Will Rogers so that he could be riding off into the sunset. This didn’t work out because Soapsuds’ rear was facing downtown. To solve this problem, the horse and Will was turned 23 degrees to the east so that the horses rear was facing the direction of Texas A&M.
