  2. Able to run all concepts of the Spread Offense • Zone Read, Zone Read Option, Zone Read Bubble, Shovel Option • Able to have downhill, North/South runs without being under Center • Counter Gap, Power, Outside Zone, Horn, Stretch, Inside Zone The Pistol Offense – Run Game

  3. Running Back gets the ball deeper • Allows him to set blocks • Increases his vision • Hides the RB • Teams cannot set fronts based on off-set back • Able to use all formation in the run game • 1 TE, 2 TE, Wing Sets, 2 RB, or No TE without limiting the play selection The Pistol Offense – Run Game

Doesn’t tip direction of the play • Read the DE • Looks like run to him, not away • Initially hides the RB • Easier Mesh Point • Able to ride the mesh longer • RB able to be square • Gets into the wall easier • RB able to push longer before the cutback • Must differentiate from Inside Zone for OL The Pistol Offense – Bluff Game

  5. Need Change-up to Read on DE • Keeps Defense Honest • Trying to take away QB and tackle RB • Different reads get the QB the ball • Different Looks freeze the LB • Changes are minor to OL Zone Read – Read Changes

  6. 1 MAN GAME • Simulate all aspects of Zone Read • ALWAYS hand the dive

  7. 2 MAN GAME • True Zone Read – QB/RB • QB vs. C gap defender

  8. 2 MAN GAME – “LEAD” & “ARC” • True Zone Read – QB/RB • QB vs. C gap defender • Borrow blockers from opposite or same side of formation • Still use different reads – Base, Lock, etc.
