  2. 8:35 – First Bell – Morning Work (review) Students will come in and put their book bags away and automatically go to the restroom. When they return they will start their morning work that is already at their seats. 8:45 – Second Bell – Announcements 8:50- Language Arts 9:50 – Specials Day 1 Media Day 2 Guidance Day 3 Art Day 4 Music Day 5 Technology Day 6 PE Calendar (math skills, reading, Spanish) Days of the week,100’s board, money, tallies) 10:30 – Language Arts –Small Group Reading 11:40- Lunch 12:10 – Recess 12:40 – Math 2:00 – Science/Social Studies 2:40 – I/E 3:05 – 3:10 - Dismissal Our Daily Schedule:

  3. Classroom Rules & Procedures Be SAFE... • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. MAKE good choices… • Raise your hand before speaking. ACCEPT responsibility… • Stay in your seat unless you have permission. Be RESPECTFUL… • Use voice level 0 during teaching/working times. TRY your best… • Follow directions the FIRST time they are given!

How else can your child achieve his/her gold medal goal in new Common Core Language Arts? • Read and comprehend non-fiction and fiction • Retell texts including: topic, key vocabulary, plot, major events, problem/solution, author’s message, setting, characters, connections. • Decode and encode using letter-sound knowledge of all consonants and vowels. This includes multi-syllable words. • Be able to read continually and independently for a minimum of 30 minutes and recall facts and details from the text. • Write a focused narrative, persuasive, or informational product that is logically organized. • Write in paragraphs with descriptive detail and elaboration using varied sentences. • Edit for meaning, capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling. • Expand vocabulary to generate synonyms for commonly overused words.

  6. How else can your child achieve his/her gold medal goal in new Common Core Math ? Understanding numbers to 999, place value, modeling numbers and renaming Addition and subtraction with regrouping Measuring – length (meters, centimeters, yards, feet and inches) and temperature Time – telling time in five-minute intervals Fractions and equal shares Conduct probability experiments and predict outcomes Geometry – combining and separating to make new shapes, describe attributes of plane and 3-dimensional shapes Problem Solving – reading, analyzing, and solving problems using a variety of strategies and being able to explain your answer.

How can your child go for the gold in Science and Social Studies? • Social Studies Standards • Units 1,2 Citizenship and Government • Unit 3 Economics • Unit 4 Geography • Unit 5 Culture • Unit 6 History • Science Standards • Quarter 1 Earth systems, Structures and Functions, Evolutions and genetics (weather, living organisms) • Quarter 2 Earth systems (weather) • Quarter 3 Matter, Properties; Earth systems ( solids and liquids and changes) • Quarter 4 Forces and motions, Earth systems (sound and vibrations)

  8. How can we stick to our gold medal goals? Homework Schedule • Reading – 20 minutes nightly • Math – Study facts nightly – test Friday • Math worksheets –M, T, W, Th • Spelling – test and homework due Friday • Writing Homework – goes home Tuesday, due the following Monday in purple folder • Occasional Science or Social Studies projects

Reading and Language Arts • Weekly spelling and reading assessments (formative and summative) • Dibels, DRA, and Star Reading • Benchmark tests • Class work and homework • Narrative, expository and persuasive writing prompts Math, Science and Social Studies • Formative and Summative Assessments • Fast fact test, Unit tests • Class work and homework • State Common Core assessments
