What is a Healing Pathway? • Healing Pathway is a value stream through which patients flow (pg 27). • Traditional value streams ignore perspective and individual needs of the product or service flowing through them • Priority: Healing Pathway  Value Stream • Primary focus: Patient’s experience ISE 428 ETM 591 Ch. 4

  3. Waste Walks • Waste walk is when the occurrences of the eight wastes are identified, so they can be driven out of the process (pg 28). • Keep in mind acronym DOWNTIME to help remember wastes to eliminate ISE 428 ETM 591 Ch. 4

What is a Healing Pathway Analysis? • Healing Pathway Analysis is a value stream analysis that includes evaluation and improvement of the patient’s experience (pg 29). • Possible to have a perfectly flowing value stream yet not providing a great patient experience • Eliminate barriers to process flow • Eliminate impediments to patient healing • Team evaluates the process from the patient’s perspective by playing the role of patient through healing pathway ISE 428 ETM 591 Ch. 4
