  5. It can be attached either to a fire engine or a fire hydrant and also can be permanently attached to a building's standpipe or plumbing system. And in today's time, the latest fire hoses use a variety of natural and synthetic fabrics and elastomers in their construction. These materials allow the hoses to be stored wet without rotting and to resist the damaging effects of exposure to sunlight and chemicals. Today's fire hoses are remarkably lighter in weight than older designs, which have helped in reducing the physical strain on firefighters. There are also fire hose vacuums that remove the air from the interior of fire hose and make fire hoses smaller and somewhat rigid, which allow more fire hose to be added or loaded into the same compartment on a fire fighting apparatus.

  6. There are several types of hose explicitly designed for the fire services, and the ones designed to operate under positive pressure are called discharge hoses. They consist of attack hose, supply hose, relay hose, forestry hose, and booster hose, and the ones designed to operate under negative pressure are called suction hoses.
