  2. Main Themes The language ab initio course is organized into three themes: • Individual and society • Leisure and work • Urban and rural environment

  3. Assessment objectives There are fiveassessmentobjectivesforthelanguage ab initio course. Studentswill be assessedontheirabilityto: 1. demonstrateanawareness and understanding of the intercultural elementsrelatedtotheprescribedtopics 2. communicateclearly and effectively in a range of situations 3. understand and use accuratelythebasicstructures of thelanguage 4. understand and use anappropriaterange of vocabulary 5. use a register and a formatthat are appropriatetothesituation.

  5. ExternalAssessment Paper 1 (90 min.): Receptiveskills 30% Understanding of fourwrittentexts. Text-handlingexercises. Paper 2 (60 min.): Productiveskills 25% Twocompulsorywritingexercises. • Section A: Onequestionfrom a choice of two. Min. 50 words • Section B: Onequestionfrom a choice of three. Min. 100 words Writtenassignment (120 min.): Receptive and productiveskills 20% A piece of writingin thetarget languagecarriedoutin classunderteachersupervision. Min. 200 words, max. 300 words. Studentswhofailtowritetheminimumnumber of wordsorwhoexceedthemaximumwill be deducted2 marksfromcriterion E: language. Ifthewordlimitisexceeded, theassessmentwill be basedonthefirst 300 words.

  6. Internal Assessment Individual oral (10 min.) : Interactive skills 25% Three-part oral internally assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by the IB towards the end of the course. • Part 1: Presentation of a visual stimulus from a choice of two by the student. 1-2 min. • Part 2: Follow-up questions on the visual stimulus. 3-4 min. • Part 3: General conversation including at least two questions on the written assignment. 5 min.
