  2. Advanced Search Form • Very helpful tool • specifies what you want • allows you to select or exclude pages

  3. Advanced Search Form • click on the Advanced Search link- right of the Google search box. • It will bring you to this page.

  4. “Safe Search” filters explicit sites and restricts it from your search result. • Does not filter sites that contain: • hate speech • anarchy • criminal activity • crude and tasteless material • illegal weapons • It is keeping our youth innocent

  5. Google Search Basics • Covers all of the most common issues. • Used less than 5% of the time.

  6. A phrase search - double quotes around a set of words. • often unnecessary • look up exactly what’s in the quotes • EX: “Alexander Bell” • Type site: to search a specific website • Ex: site:Iraqnightimes.com • An asterisk is a placeholder for unknown terms • Ex: Google*

  7. To exclude a word from the search put a minus sign in front of it. • Ex: (virus –self) • To avoid Google adding words to your search, add a plus. • Ex: (+Child care) • To add several words type OR in capital letters • Ex: (San Francisco 2004 OR 2005)

  8. Google Timeline • The Google Timeline is part of the Google experimental • It is an application that organizes your search in chronological order and how many articles are published each year.

  9. Google Wonderwheel • It presents a visual of what you the searcher is searching for. • When you click a different branch of the spider web it brings you to a more specific web. • The wonder wheel is a feature that was designed to organize and help further find your exact detailed search.

  17. Basic Search Help: Choose Descriptive Words • Unique words bring more relevant results • Use commonly used words • Ex: celebrity ringtones is better than celebrity sounds

  18. Bing VS. Google • has stronger emphasize to key words in the URL • Case sensitive • Prefers pages of larger size • core product is search tool • Google is in the Webster's dictionary • Known for internet crawling Google bars
