The College The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC College functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The College offers undergraduates a choice of nearly 80 majors and more than 50 minors, and provides advisement to undecided and undeclared students. At the same time, we have initiated a concerted effort to strengthen the College’s graduate programs, which include 25 doctoral degree programs. The College will soon achieve its goal to recruit 100 world-class scholars, marking the close of a major initiative that has led to a 25 percent expansion of our faculty. Through institutional partnerships and service-learning programs, the College has built strong alliances with the diverse communities.

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Its Spanish Language Program accommodates the largest number of students of any foreign language taught at USC, and includes the possibility of voluntary participation by students of Spanish both in JEP (Joint Educational Project), and in opportunities for activities on the Internet. The undergraduate Spanish major and minor programs attract large numbers of students from throughout the University, and are balanced programs consisting of coursework in the areas of Hispanic language, literature and culture. The Department offers on a regular basis an intensive summer program in Madrid on Spanish language, literature, and culture, and through the Office of Overseas Studies, students of Spanish are encouraged to study for a semester or a year at various affiliated universities in Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

  8. 3.CURSO “INTRODUCCIÓN A LA EDUCACIÓN EN CALIFORNIA” Es un curso que se lleva a cabo la semana de la llegada de todos los profesores visitantes seleccionados para trabajar en California cada año. 4.CURSO “ADAPTACIÓN DE LOS PROFESORES A LA ESCUELA CALIFORNIANA” Curso que facilita la integración de los profesores recién incorporados a los largo de los primeros meses en sus escuela. 5. GRUPO DE TRABAJO PARA LA ELABORACIÓN DE RECURSOS DIDÁCTICOS Durante el pasado curso se elaboraron unidades didácticas para la revista Materiales, de la Consejería de Educación, se analizaron libros de texto para la enseñanza de español, y se adaptaron canciones y material audiovisual a la práctica docente. 6.
