  2. GENERAL OBJECTIVES • Pupils should be able to achieve the following skills, both orally and in writing, in the teaching learning activities.

  3. To listen, comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions within a given context. • To give comprehend and carry out written instruction within a given context. • To attain a linguistic competence that will enable them to communicate both in oral and written form, inside and outside the classroom as required.

  4. To read aloud and silently with comprehension so that they can enjoy fiction and factual prose and also widen their vocabulary and knowledge. • To write composition using correct punctuation, vocabulary and structures.

  5. OBJECTIVES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMME YEAR 5

  6. Able to listen and comprehend oral and written instruction. • To give and carry out instruction in and outside classroom.

  7. Able to talk of aspect of: - travel - health - hobbies - likes, dislikes - possessions and wants. • Able to describe the people of Malaysia and her neighbours, festivals, events, and habitual actions.

  8. Talk of cause and effects relationship and make statements pertaining to universal truth. • Able to read: - paragraph - stories - simply maps, - diagrams and timetables as well as read, - discrimination and - group words.

  9. Able to give information about: - animals - plants - objects - location of town, states, countries and buildings found there. • Able to anticipate meaning of words, follow plot sequence, recall main ideas and major details, predict outcome, follow direction, draw conclusion and use the dictionaries.

  10. Able to write on various topics, discuss orally. • Able to write letters and stories, write descriptions of events, festivals and processes. • Read and gather information from maps, and predict outcomes. • Able write announcement and letters.
