  1. Sliding Table Saw Safety Training

  2. CAPABILITIES OF THE SLIDING TABLE SAW • Using the sliding table, the saw can rip, cross-cut and square-up cut stock and panels under a 4’ x 8’ dimension. • By eliminating the sliding table, the saw can be used as a traditional table saw. • The saw can make angle and compound angle cuts (angle both the blade and the cross-cut fence on the sliding table) accurately and easily.

  3. 1. Eye and ear protection MUST be worn at all times when operating this piece of machinery. And ALWAYS wear proper apparel: NO loose clothing, gloves, neckties, or jewelry to get caught in moving parts.

  4. 2. Before starting the saw, be sure that the air hose is connected. The connector is located on the rear of the saw below the out-feed table.

  5. 3. Make sure the gates on the dust collection system are open to the sliding table saw but closed to the Delta table saw.

  6. 4. Be sure that all work surfaces are free of debris. There should be NO clutter on the saw that can bind the sliding mechanisms or become caught in the blade.

  7. 5. While loading and unloading, be sure to position the sliding table as far back away from the blade as possible. All pieces need to be fully secured in the table before cutting. Use BOTH forward and rear clamps.

  8. 6. Perform a pre-travel test with all new set-ups before starting saw to be sure there are no obstructions within the line of the blade.

  9. 7. To prevent binding of the blade and serious kickback, use EITHER the sliding table OR the rip fence, but NEVER use both at once! *This saw has an adjustable rip fence. Turn the handle on the top and slide the fence back away from the blade the desired distance.

  10. 8. Most injuries occur when using the scoring blade! NEVER reach into the saw while it is running to remove debris! Use the scoring blade only when cutting double-sided materials with high chip potential. The scoring blade operates independently of the main blade and has its own on/off switch, so be sure that both blades have come to a complete stop before reaching in to clean the blade area.

  11. 9. Because the saw is connected directly to the main shop power switch, the power must be turned off at the breaker while changing blades.

  12. 10. Starting the saw should automatically turn on the dust collection system. If the dust collection does not turn on, do not operate the saw, but seek assistance from a qualified staff person.

  13. To Start The Saw • Pull out emergency stop knob • Push reset button and be sure it is lit • Turn power switch to first position (symbol like inverted “Y”) until blade reaches full speed then turn the switch to the second position (triangle) for use. • The controls for the scoring blade are located on the right. The white is the “on” button, the black is the “off.

  14. ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAWS • ALWAYS be sure the blade guard is in position over the blade when “thru-sawing.” Thru-sawing occurs when the blade cuts completely through the work piece. • ALWAYS hold the work firmly against the miter gage OR fence. • ALWAYS use a push stick for ripping narrow stock. • NEVER perform any operation “free-hand.”

  15. ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAWS • NEVER stand or have any part of your body in line with the path of the blade. • NEVER reach behind or over the blade with either hand for any reason. • Feed work into the blade against the direction of rotation only. • NEVER use the fence as a cut-off gage when cross-cutting.

  16. ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAWS • NEVER attempt to free a stalled blade without first turning off the saw. • AVOID KICKBACKS by keeping the blade sharp, keeping the rip fence parallel to the blade, keeping the splitter and guard in place, by not releasing work before it is pushed all the way past the blade, and by not ripping material that is twisted or warped or does not have a straight edge to guide along the fence.

  17. ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAWS • AVOID awkward operations and hand positions where a sudden slip can cause your hand to move into the blade. • The blade is at the appropriate height when the gullet clears the top surface of the work piece, no higher. • ALWAYS leave blade and entire saw area clean and free of clutter when finished and return set-ups to their original positions.
