How to use Baking soda in the laundry? medium.com/@wedolaundryca/how-to-use-baking-soda-in-the-laundry-c47a0e003b54 December 29, 2021 In addition to eliminating odors from laundry, soap, bleach, and softening clothes, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can be used to clean iron, soften clothes, and control suds from detergent. Baking soda is one of the first two best products (along with distilled white vinegar) to turn your laundry green by reducing its reliance on harsh chemicals, making it safe to use in standard and high-efficiency washers. So, what can baking soda do? To find out what baking soda looks like, read on: Reduce and eliminate laundry odors Increase detergent and bleach performance Make clothes soft naturally Clean an iron Control extra suds 1. Reduce and eliminate laundry odors 1/7

  2. Body odor on our clothes and linen is caused by bacteria. Bacteria are removed when the detergent molecules break down the bacterial cells on the clothes. Detergents that are less expensive but do not contain the enzymes that work hard to destroy bacteria need an extra boost in order to be effective. Baking soda helps control the pH level of the washing water without being too acidic or alkaline. Baking soda makes detergents more effective and reduces bacteria by adding 1/2 cup to each laundry load. If you have washable garments that require refreshing, store them in a sealable container, that has baking soda and has an open box. To help erase smells, leave them on for at least 24 hours. 2. Boost bleach and detergent performance Chlorine bleach often helps to remove odors and common dirt in our laundry. In water that is too acidic or alkaline, bleach is needed to make detergents more effective. By improving its cleaning capabilities, you may use less bleach to obtain the same results, saving money and reducing the environmental effect of bleach. Applying 1/2 cup baking soda for every 1/2 cup bleach helps to manage the pH level in the water, allowing bleach to function more effectively to eliminate germs and loosen the soil. If you don’t want to use chlorine bleach, 1/2 cup baking soda will improve the efficacy of your detergent. If you have hard water or use a value detergent, this is very crucial. Before adding filthy clothing to an empty washer tub, sprinkle dry baking soda. Do not put baking soda in the automated dispensers in the washer. 3. Natural fabric softener If you want soft fabrics without the use of fabric softeners, baking soda is a great alternative! It also suspends detergent and mineral residues that can make your clothes look rough, as it helps control the pH balance of the water. Baking soda is a natural mineral so it is also very good for those with sensitive skin. Add 1/2 cup to the drawer during the final wash. 4. Removes Stains Baking soda is a natural stain remover and is great at removing tough stains such as oil, grease, and food. All you have to do is make a baking soda paste with water, rub it lightly on the stain and let it sit. Depending on how hard the stain is, you can leave the paste on for 15 minutes or overnight. 3. Baking soda is a natural gentle abrasive. To remove built-up starch and scorch deposits from the cold iron faceplate, add baking soda and water paste. Using a white cloth, rub the paste on the iron face. For a rough build-up, use a cloth to gently scrub and repeat until the build-up is gone. Wipe the faceplate clean with a moistened towel soaked with distilled white vinegar. Your iron will now glide smoothly, making ironing much easier and leaving no tail-to-tail deposits.
