The SweAF EA approach • The principals for SweAF approach is that the whole Enterprise can be described and managed as a ”system”. • Systems can be defined as ” A combination of interacting elements organized to achieve one or more stated purposes.” [SS-ISO/IEC 15288]. • System in this context defines therefore something very generic that includes not only the technical systems but also all systems made of people including the whole business.

The SweAF EA approach • All systems have an architecture • ”Architecture” The fundamental organization of a system embodied in its components, their relationships to each other, and to the environment, and the principles guiding its design and evolution.”, [IEEE 1471]. • The Architecture affects the systems properties • Assuming SweAF is a system, then SweAF has an architectureSweAF EA.

The SweAF EA approach • All systems have a lifecycle. • ”System life cycle – ”The evolution with time of a system-of-interest from conception through to retirement.”, [SS-ISO/IEC 15288]. • A system proceeds through it´s lifecycle whith help from so called life cycle processes. • Process ” set of interrelated or interacting activities which transforms inputs into outputs” [SS-ISO/IEC 15288]. • The capability of a system is dependent of the quality of the life cycle processes.

  5. The SweAF EA approach • Architectures and life cycle models can be described. • Descriptions is the basis for understanding, analyzing, communicating and designing activities.

  6. The SweAF EA approach • The definition of the basic terms used in the architecture work will be the base for the three architectural diciplines : - Describing a system and it´s architecture - lifecycle handling of systems - The design and designrules of a system.

Concerns - NNEC TERMS • NNEC TERMS definitions with sources from older NATO documentation - may effect the outcome of current and future understanding of NNEC. • NNEC TERMS proposed ought to be to best effort based on standards which support future (user/stakeholder/COI) perspective of NNEC development.(e.g IEEE 1471, ISO 15288 • NNEC TERMS ought to have a distinction and clarity (compound terms, see nex picture). • NNEC TERMS used in architectural work, among architects, ought to have the same context when being used.
