  3. BERC Begins • BERC was created in 1993, by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors • Study revealed that the business community wanted an impartial, confidential, third party to assist them with regulatory compliance issues.

  9. Program Requirements • Be in compliance with current environmental regulations • Meet the program’s minimum standards for resource conservation and pollution prevention by completing the checklists. • Allow scheduled verification visits.

SB Certification Process • Download Implementation Checklists from SacBerc.org/SASB • Select the sustainability measures you are going to implement or have already implemented • Submit measures to BERC • BERC reviews measures, conducts site visit, and issues SASB Certificate along with a window decal • Update BERC with any changes in location, status, and sustainable measures

  12. Sustainable Measures Checklist In order to be certified, a business must implement a minimum number of these measures. The measures require changes in equipment, as well as changes in practices, which enhance sustainability.

  13. Sustainable Measures Checklist A business can either implement measures suggested on the checklist, or enter their own unique measures in the “OTHER” box on the checklist.

  14. SB Benefits • A certified business receives a 8 ½” by 11” certificate and a 5” by 5” window decal to display at their facility.
