The American Revolution:The Growth of American Culture • The arts in America flourished as never before during this time because… • Having had existed for 150 years, they were ready for a richer cultural life. • The Revolution inspired people to express their feelings and ideas. • American cities grew swiftly and the country’s population almost doubled.

  3. The American Revolution:The Growth of American Culture Only a few months before the Townshend acts, actors known as The American Company produced The Prince of Parthia. After the Boston Massacre a painting called The Death of General Wolfe was displayed. An American artist influenced Europe!

The American Revolution:The Growth of American Culture • After the Boston Tea Party, The New-England Psalm-Singerwas produced, the first volume of American-composed music. • Before Washington became president in 1789, newspapers advertised the publication of The Power of Sympathy, the first American novel. • Published anonymously, this novel touched on such shocking subjects illegitimacy and incest.

What led the English government to begin a harsh program of taxing the colonies? Name there individuals who helped fight the American Revolution with words rather than muskets. What factors were responsible for the flourishing of American culture during the Revolutionary period?
