Why – changing environment • Many conversations on the • NextGen catalog • Discovery to Delivery • Syndication • Libraries Strategic Plan: To build and integrate new tools and services for information discovery and delivery. • OCLC is in a position to work with national and international partners to move libraries to the network level

  6. Why – our users • Search simplicity based on research showing how most seek information • Fewer clicks to find and obtain information • Make our quality resources convenient for users to find and get

  8. Discovery Silos Three catalog/returnable silos: UW Libraries Catalog Summit Catalog WorldCat E-content: hundreds of databases, plus journals, e-books, images, etc.

  9. Delivery Silos UW Libraries catalog request Summit request Interlibrary Loan (ILLIAD)

  10. Searching with WCL • WCL includes all • UW records in OCLC (books, serials, media, etc.). • Summit holdings • WorldCat records • Article citations from ArticleFirst, ERIC, GPO and PubMed. • Contains links to full text via OpenURL resolver

  11. Requesting with WCL Requests for materials held at UW or Summit are routed through Summit. Requests for materials held by WorldCat Libraries are routed through ILL (ILLiad). Staff in ILL process requests with the goal of getting the item the person wants.
