  3. Grabber’s • Look at your grabber notes. Quickly review the different types of grabbers. • Remember you cannot start an essay with a question!

  4. The Bridge Statement • Connect your WOW (G) to your NOW (T)! • A sentence to help your reader make sense of your grabber and get ready for the thesis statement.

  5. Type of Bridges: Types of Bridges What is it? Explains grabber/ what it means Asks a question of reader – answer in thesis Describe how something was life changing • Commentary • Question? • Transitional Statement

What kind of animal would you be? • Being an animal for the day would be a crazy experience; I personally, would love to be a laughing hyena. • People would have a new perspective on life if they were an animal for a day; I know that I would learn a lot from being an owl.

  13. Sentence #2 • Fall, winter, spring, summer…we all have a favorite season. What season is your favorite? • Each season has its own unique qualities; by far, my favorite would be summer, because we go on vacation. • You try it now…topic (or theme) ; your own personal.

  15. A Complete Introduction • G = Grabber (Choose from your list) • B = Bridge (A connecting sentence to make your grabber linked to your thesis statement • T = Thesis: What your essay is about & why it is important (uses a semicolon).

  16. Introduction Practice • Show me what you know! • Write 3 new introductions to your prompt for the week. • Try a different grabber in each introduction • Try a different bridge in each introduction • You may keep your thesis the same for each paragraph or challenge yourself to reword them.
