  2. What are Fats? Fatsis the substance in food that provides a rich texture and flavor. The foods that contain the largest amounts of fat come from animal products such as meat, dairy and eggs, plus nuts and seeds. >Common examples of cooking fats include olive oil, lard, canola oil, walnut oil, butter, margarine and shortening. Fatshas gotten a bad reputation in the diet world, although only some of that reputation is deserved. While bad fats can contribute to poor health, some fats are needed for good health.

  3. Fats are essential to normal health to normal growth and development. In laboratory animals that have been reared without fat, they don't survive for long. We need fat, it's a good energy source, it's a form of stored energy, it's an insulator for our tissues, it's a cushion for our vital organs. So we need to have fat and it's an important constituent of our diet.

Effects of Over-Consumption of Fats • Coronary heart disease (CHD) • remains the most common cause of death in men and women  • Obesity • Obesity, as defined by a BMI over 30 (kg/m2),is a recognised risk factor for coronary heart disease • Cancer • Cancer is beginning to become the leading cause of death

Ways to reduce intake of Fats • Eat lean meat. • Low Fat Milk and Dairy • 3.Get Off the Junk Food. • Most junk food is loaded with fat.  • Start cooking, making your own lunch and finding healthy snacks to replace your unhealthy options with. • 4. Bake. • Baking will yield a food that is lower in fat than a fried recipe
