  1. AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSOR SUBMITTED TO-: SUBMITTED BY-: MR. ANAL HANDU KAMALKANT RAJPOOT (MECHANICAL DEP. H.O.D.) ROLL NO.-:0914ME111013

  2. INTRODUCTION A compressor used in gas turbine engines in which the flow of air is maintained parallel to the compressor shaft. An axial-flow compressor is made up of several stages of alternate rotors and stators. The number of stages of compression determines the compression ratio. An axial flow has high efficiency in that it has lower fuel consumption at a given power and a higher compression ratio. It can cater for a large mass flow and, hence, is suitable for high-powered engines.

  4. Single stage characteristics Multi-stage characteristics Performance characteristics of axial flow compressors

  5. Let us consider a typical axial compressor stage comprising of a set of rotor blades followed by a set of stator blades. Single stage performance characteristics

  6. .In a multi-stage compressor,a small departure from the design point at the first stage causes progressively increasing departure from design conditions from the first stage onwards. •Thus,a small reduction in (ca/U)designat the first stage could lead to positive incidence separation at the last stage. Multi-stage performance characteristics

  7. Axial flow compressor has higher efficiency then radial flow compressor. Axial flow compressor gives higher pressure ratio on a single shaft with relatively high efficiency. The axial flow compressor is it`s high thrust per unit frontal area. ADVANTAGES

  8. The main disadvantages are it is complexity and cost. DISADVANTAGES
