Objectives • to encourage, support and develop existing and new harm reduction interventions for IDUs in Romania • to promote good practice models that will respond to the needs of IDUs • to identify socio-behavioral factors which contribute to HIV/STIs, Hepatitis B & C transmission among IDUs in 3 cities
Beneficiaries • NGOs and GOs active in the field of HIV/AIDS/STIs, harm reduction and outreach work • central and local authorities • policy makers in HIV/AIDS and in drug prevention and treatment • national and international agencies seeking information on Romanian IDUs • IDUs in Bucharest, Timisoara, Constanta
Activities planned for 2002 • setting-up a training, information and communication center (TIC) • developing a health care services network • editing a Romanian services directory on services available for IDUs • improving harm reduction services • increasing awareness of authorities (health and social services) on drug related harms
Achievements • three issues of RHRN newsletter • first issue of Romanian services directory on services available for IDUs • brochure for IDUs • website: www.rhrn.ro • three meetings with all RHRN members • meeting with the police representatives, Bucharest • socio-behavioural survey on risk factors for HIV/STIs, Hepatitis B&C transmission in IDUs • new members
