  2. Harry Callahan- Info • Born in Detroit, Michigan • Started photography in 1938 • Started teaching photography at Institute of Design in Chicago in 1946 • Retired in 1977 (while teaching at RISD) • Died in Atlanta in 1999

  3. 1956 • 9.3 X 12.0 cm • “This picture displays a unique take on beauty”

  4. Eleanor- Chicago 1948 This is a picture of Callahan’s wife Eleanor, who was his prime subject for over fifteen years. It uses light and dark contrast very well.

  5. Rome 1968 • Rome 1968 • 19.9 X 29.8 cm • Captures the energy of the city and uses the height of the building to the best advantage.

  6. Eleanor • 1947 • Harry Callahan says-“Turn the camera on your own life.”

  7. Chicago • 1950 • Harry says- “I take pictures of life, what’s real.”

  8. Favorite Picture-Eleanor This is my favorite picture because I love how serene and simple the subject is. I also like the high contrast and shadows on the water.
