  2. Goals • A .Net version was available and released by Dr. Mock • Client is mostly using Apple products • Goal is to recreate the .Net version in Java for easy accessibility and platform independent usage

  3. Why? • Why? • Geologic Sciences specify rocks via a color index • Differentiating colors based on just the plain eye is rather difficult

  4. Original Planning • Copy the Original UI layout • Fill the UI with functionality • Adding additional features

  5. Original programs UI

  6. New UI Layout

  7. UI Review • Inconsistent security features (pop up when closing) • Different image resolution (panning/zooming) • Problems with File open (images only/last chosen directory) • Status bar • Separate Color from Grain replacement button • Labels don't fit the space they are assigned

  8. Problems encountered • Underestimated the project as a whole and took it too lightly • UI creation more time intense • Didn't spend enough straight time on the project (more on/off time)

  9. Prototyping • Used Prototyping as the client was Dr. Mock • Switched from the perspective of getting whole UI done first • Created a base UI and then filled in functionality and showed it to the client to get feedback

  10. Conclusion • Still some work ahead • Good practice and learning experience
