Interstitial Nephritis (cont)
  • Treatment
    • Avoiding the cause of the swelling (the medicine)
    • Corticosteroids and Anti-inflammatory medicine can be used to reduce swelling quickly
    • Salt and fluid restricted diet
  • Inflammation of the bladder
  • Caused mostly by a bacteria that enters through the urethra and moves up to the bladder

    • Low fever
  • Treatment
    • Antibiotics (oral or injection into bladder)
    • For non-bacterial, treatment is on the underlying cause
  • Inflammation of the lining of the urethra
  • Caused by bacterial infection that may also affect the bladder and reproductive organs
  • Symptoms

    • Burning and pain during urination
    • Pus or discharge from the penis or vagina

Urethritis (cont)
  • Treatment
    • Series of antibiotics
    • Patients should not engage in sexual intercourse until symptoms are resolved and treatment stops
  • There is glucose in the urine of untreated diabetic patients
  • Why?
    • In diabetes, glucose cannot be absorbed
    • This causes glucose levels to rise
