  3. จีน The Spring Temple Buddha (鲁山大佛) The Spring Temple Buddha (simplified Chinese: 鲁山大佛; traditional Chinese: 魯山大佛; pinyin: Lǔshān Dàfó) is a statue depicting Vairocana Buddha in Lushan, Henan, China. At 128 m (420 ft), which includes a 20 m (66 ft) lotus throne, it is the largest statue in the world.[1] When the 25 m (82 ft) pedestal/building it is placed upon is taken into account, the monument has a total height of 153 m (502 ft). As of October 2008, the hill on which the statue stands is being reshaped to form two further pedestals, the upper one being 15 m tall. The total height of the monument is now said to be 208 m.[2]

  4. จีน The As of June 232008, little information is available online in English about the statue. Plans for its construction were announced soon after construction had begun on a planned Maitreya Buddha by Indian and British planners in Bihar, Northern India, which set out to be the world's largest statue itself.

  5. จีน The project as a whole was estimated to cost around $55m, $18m of which being spent on the statue. It was originally estimated to consist of 1,100 pieces of copper cast, with a total weight of 1,000 tonnes.[3] Plans of the construction of the Spring Temple Buddha were announced soon after the blowing up of the Bamiyan Buddhas by the Taleban in Afghanistan. China has condemned the systematic destruction of the Buddhist heritage of Afghanistan.

  6. ฮ่องกง

  7. ฮ่องกง Po Lin Monastery ( 寶蓮禪寺) Po Lin Monastery is a Buddhist monastery, located on Ngong Ping Plateau, on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. The monastery was founded in 1906 by three monks visiting from Jiangsu and was initially known as "The Big Hut". It was renamed to its present name in 1924. The main temple houses 3 bronze statues of the Buddha representing his past, present and future lives as well as many Buddhist scriptures.

  8. ฮ่องกง Tian Tan Buddha, a giant Buddha statue completed in 1993, is an extension of the monastery. The Ngong Ping 360, consisting of the Ngong Ping village and a gondola lift running between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping, was built near to the Po Lin Monastery. This Monastery is also famous for making wooden bracelets, that are only sold near the Tian Tan Buddha statue.

  9. ฮ่องกง Po Lin Monastery, one of Hong Kong's major Buddhist temples, shares Ngong Ping plateau with the famous Big Buddha, the world's largest, seated, outdoor, bronze Buddha.

  10. ฮ่องกง The Po Lin monastery is situated on the plateau of Ngong Ping, one of the plateaus on the gorges of Lantau Island, which is the largest island of Hong Kong. With an area of 0.5 square mile, the plateau rises to more than 2,330 ft. above sea level. The Po Lin Monastery is nestled between the Lantau Peak and Lei Nak Shan. In front of the main entrance, there is the Tian Tan Big Buddha, Lotus Pagoda and Hua Yan Pagoda on the left and Lotus Hill and Lion Rock on the south, somposing a compelling view on the mountain of Lantau Island.

  11. ไต้หวัน

  12. ไต้หวัน Chung Tai Chan Monastery (中台禪寺) In 1987, Buddhist Grand Master Wei Chueh built Ling Quan ("Spiritual Spring") Chan Monastery (靈泉禪寺) as a refuge where his disciples could cultivate their spiritual lives through peaceful meditation. Master Wei taught his disciples to nurture a calm and penetrating spirit in order to "reach enlightenment to the ultimate truth-awakening the mind and the senses to see the true nature, and thus become a Buddha." This was the essence of his Dharma teachings that would help revitalize Chan (Zen) Buddhism in Taiwan. According to the Buddhist Dictionary, Dharma, Fa (法) in Chinese has the combined meanings of "phenomenon, constituent, and factor."It has come to mean "Buddhist teachings.“ Soon, Ling Quan Chan Monastery was too small to accommodate the ever-increasing number of followers eager for his teaching. The Grand Master wanted to build a complete environment for those who wish to learn the Buddha Dharma, and in 1992 started working with architects to design the Chung Tai Chan Monastery. After three years of planning and seven years of construction, this landmark building opened its doors on September 1, 2001.

  13. ไต้หวัน Viewed from afar, Chung Tai resembles a cultivator surrounded by mountains, sitting in meditation, majestic and serene. The entire structure reflects the Dharma, embodying the unification of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation. The three central Buddha halls rise vertically to the golden dome on top, symbolizing sudden enlightenment to the ultimate truth—“awaken the mind and see the true nature; seeing the true nature one becomes a Buddha.” The pilgrimage stairways on both sides of the monastery represent the bodhisattvas’ gradual cultivation of the six paramitas (perfections); each step leading to the attainment of Buddhahood not just for oneself but for all beings. Architectural Design The architecture of Chung Tai Chan Monastery expresses a harmony of the arts, culture, science, and the teachings of the Buddha, and is a wonderful example of the application of Buddhism in the Five Directions. Soon after the Monastery’s completion, it was awarded “The 23rd Annual Taiwan Architecture Award” in 2002, and “The 20th International Award for Lighting Design” in 2003. Receiving extensive acclaims and recognition, the monastery is a landmark of 21st century religious architecture. Special Features of the Monastery Viewed from afar, Chung Tai resembles a cultivator surrounded by mountains, sitting in meditation, majestic and serene.

  14. ไต้หวัน The Great Magnificent Hall The Great Magnificence Hall on the fifth floor enshrines Rocana Buddha, the golden shining bliss body of the Buddha as seen by enlightened bodhisattvas. Intricate patterns from the Dung Huang Caves (in Gan Su Province, China) grace the hand-painted ceiling. The hall is surrounded by walls with thousands of Buddhas, representing the infinite perfection and magnificence of the Buddha Lands. The Medicine Buddha of the East and Amitabha Buddha of the West sit serenely on either side, welcoming beings to their Pure Lands. Hall of the Four Heavenly Kings On the first floor, the Hall of the Four Heavenly Kings enshrines Bodhisattva Maitreya (the future Buddha), Bodhisattva Wei Tuo (temple guardian), and 18 arhats (saints). Supporting the hall are the Heavenly Kings in four corners, each 12 meters high and among the largest in the world. Each king’s head has the faces of all four kings. This “one in four and four in one” design is a seamless unification of Buddhist symbolism, art, and ingenious design. The Great Majestic Hall On the second floor is the first of the three Buddha Halls. The red granite sculpture of Shakyamuni Buddha represents “the transformation Buddha,” the historical Buddha perceived by ordinary people. His virtue, wisdom, and power can subdue all demons and heresies; therefore he is known as “the Great Majestic One.” The red granite Buddha statue and grey stone surrounding give an ambience of calmness and serenity, as well as reflecting the Buddha’s compassion in this world of suffering. Adjoining this hall, on either side, are the Patriarch Hall and Sangharama Hall that enshrine the first Patriarch of Chan Buddhism, Bodhidharma, and the protector of the monastery, Bodhisattva Sangharama.

  15. ไต้หวัน The Great Enlightenment Hall In the Great Enlightenment Hall on the ninth floor sits Vairocana Buddha, the Dharma body of the Buddha that symbolizes the intrinsic pure nature of all beings. The four-story, all white statue seated in profound serenity under the starry night ceiling reminds us of the Buddha’s complete enlightenment 2500 years ago when he observed the morning star before the coming of dawn. Bodhisattva Manjusri of Great Wisdom and Bodhisattva Samantabhadra of Great Conduct accompany the Buddha in the adjoining halls. Since Chung Tai’s primary emphasis is on Chan (Chinese Zen) meditation practice, the Chan meditation halls comprise the heart of the monastery. They are the furnace that forges the enlightened mind of the Buddha. The Great Meditation Hall and Upper Meditation Hall are located on the 5th and 9th floors, forming a causal relationship with the facing Buddha halls. Diligent practice in the meditation hall is the seed; awakening to the original mind and completing the Buddha path is the fruit. Thus the Chan halls and the three Buddha halls unify sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation into a complete path to liberation.

  16. ไต้หวัน The Golden Dome The golden dome on the apex of the monastery represents the priceless mani pearl, a symbol of the perfect and luminous nature inherent in all sentient beings. Titanium-coated plates give the dome its gold color and protect it from the elements. The ceiling design is the hand of Chung Tai holding up a flower in the center, surrounded by concentric layers of elegantly lined lotus blossoms. Circling the wall are Han Dynasty-styled etchings that depict Buddha’s diligent practice through many lifetimes. These etchings illustrate the bodhisattva’s six-fold perfection of charity, moral conduct, tolerance, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, to ultimately realize our pure original nature and its infinite potentials. The Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas On the 16th floor, this unique hall has 20,000 statues of the Medicine Buddha on its walls, all meticulously hand-cast in bronze. In the center is a seven-story pagoda, constructed of teakwood without the use of a single nail. Inside the pagoda are statues of 7 Medicine Buddhas and classic wooden reliefs of 500 arhats. With the Diamond Sutra engraved on its outer walls, the Three Jewels-Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha-are unified in this pagoda. The enormous 30-meter high frameless glass curtains on both sides of the pagoda are precision-engineered and can flex 43.9 centimeters under force, to be resistant to fierce winds and earthquakes. Through the glass curtains, the pagoda can be seen from a great distance at night, with the light from the pagoda emanating like a beacon, calling those in the mundane world to return to the luminous nature of their original mind.

  17. ญี่ปุ่น

  18. ญี่ปุ่น Ushiku Daibutsu (牛久大仏) The Ushiku Daibutsu located in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, is one of the world's tallest statues[1]. Completed in 1995, it stands a total of 120 meters (394 feet) tall, including the 10m high base and 10m high lotus platform. An elevator takes visitors up to 85m off the ground, where an observation floor is located. It depicts Amitabha Buddha and is plated with bronze. It is also known as Ushiku Arcadia (Amida's Radiance and Compassion Actually Developing and Illuminating Area). Details Weight: 4000 tons Length of Left Hand: 18.0m Length of Face: 20.0m Length of Eye: 2.5m Length of Mouth: 4.0m Length of Nose: 1.2m Length of Ear: 10.0m Length of the First Finger: 7.0m

  19. ญี่ปุ่น Inside the statue itself is a four story building, which serves as a kind of museum. Level 1: Infinite Light and Infinite Life The first floor lobby is dark, and as you enter new age music floats toward you from the darkness. In the center of the room a single shaft of light shines from above onto a cauldron of smoking incense. If you walk past that you'll find the elevator to the other floors. Grdhrakuta Also on the fourth floor are windows which look out from the buddha's chest on to the adjacent flower garden and small animal park.

  20. ญี่ปุ่น When you see Ushiku Daibutsu, the great Buddha in Nara will be a baby because its head is even bigger than lest of Japanese Daibutsu. There is no wander like Ushiku Daibutsu as spiritual monument in the world. It was build for the anniversary for Shinra-shonin who started the Pure Land Buddhism. Ushiku was his home town. To build the Pure Land, they build the greatest Buddha statue in their own Pure Land. There are flower gardens which has all kinds of flowers for all seasons. Also, many festival like fireworks, summer festa, or new years festa held at the garden. At Squirrel and rabbit park, they have monkey show, and play grands where you can play with those animals. There are light show in the summer. Inside the statue itself is a four story building, which serves as a kind of museum. The first floor lobby is dark, and as you enter new age music floats toward you from the darkness. In the center of the room a single shaft of light shines from above onto a cauldron of smoking incense. This room is called Infinite Light and Infinite Life. In this room, you can easily imagine your pure land. 2nd fl. is World of Gratitude and Thankfulness. You can experience the writing sutra here. There are Buddha's ashes and windows for all four directions.

  21. พม่า

  22. พม่า The world largest Reclining Buddha Image (length 400cubits). (There is 8 stories inside Buddha Image). It is located in Myaing-kone Village, Mudon Township, Mon State.

  23. พม่า The World Biggest Reclining Buddha in Mudon A huge Monastic Complex in Mudon, Mon state, accommodates several religious monuments, including this nearly 200m-long-reclining Buddha. About 170m in length, located 20km south of Moulmein (Mawlamyine). Its hollow interior is filled with rooms containing various statuary.

  24. อินเดีย

  25. อินเดีย Maitreya Project The statue is a temple that will contain 17 individual shrine rooms. The highest room at 140 meters high -- the equviliant of the 40th storey of a standard building -- making the statue a veritable temple-skyscraper as well. This statue and complex will be a fusion of Indian and Tibetan architectural styles that will adhere to ancient Vaastu Shastra design code and will also hold the world's largest collection of Lord Buddha's relics. Apart from the statue/skyscraper, the Maitreya Project organizers will also build free hospitals and schools servicing tens of thousands of poor, and also be a huge catalyst for infrastructure and tourism development efforts in one of the most economically backwards parts of India. The project is a joint religious collaboration by organizations representing the various sects and faiths that revere the Buddha: from Hinduism to Mahayana to Vajrayana to Hinayana to Jaina to Christian and Muslim. Under guidance of the overall project conceptualizer, Nepalese-Tibetan spiritual leader Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the Project was funded by Buddhist and Hindu temples, social organizations, religious groups and by individuals in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Tibet, China, Japan, Korea, the UK and America. Through this project, India once again shows that the ancient arts of massive devotional architecture continues to undergo a veritable renaissance.

  26. อินเดีย The Maitreya Project "is based on the belief that inner peace and outer peace share a cause and effect relationship and that loving-kindness leads to peace at every level of society — peace for individuals, families, communities and the world." The entire temple complex is designed to be completely sustainable, meaning that it will quite literally have the same environmental impact (i.e. emit the same amount of carbon dioxide and methane) as the paddy field it will be constructed. The Project will include schools and universities that focus on ethical and spiritual development as well as academic achievement, and a healthcare network based around a teaching hospital of international standard with the intention of supplementing the medical services currently provided by the government to provide healthcare services, particularly for the poor and underprivileged.

  27. อินเดีย As such, the Maitreya Project organizers are working in tandem with the local, regional and state governments in Uttar Pradesh, India, who have fully supported the project. To this effect, the Kushinagar Special Development Area Authority will support the planned development of the area surrounding the Project. The total project cost is estimated at $250 million, but the project will developed this impoverished region and will earn a hundredfold more that will be funneled into the Maitreya Project's historical preservation plans and charities. Maitreya Project Preliminary Site Plan Maitreya Project's lead architects, Aros Ltd., have drawn up a preliminary proposed plan for the beautiful 750 acre Kushinagar site.

  28. อินเดีย • Main features being: • The Ceremonial Gateway & Maitreya Statue Sanctuary will lead visitors to the 500ft/152m Maitreya Buddha statue. • The Maitreya Buddha Statue will sit on the Throne Building containing temples, prayer halls, exhibition halls, a museum, library and audio-visual theatre. • The Hospital and Healthcare Centre will be the hub of Maitreya Project’s public healthcare programmes. The development of these programmes will begin with primary care clinics in the communities of the Kushinagar Special Development Area. Over the years, the medical services will be developed and expanded to meet the needs of many communities. A complete healthcare network will be developed to provide medical services that are centred around a teaching hospital of international standard. The healthcare system will primarily serve the poor and under-privileged, even in remote parts of the area. • The Centre of Learning, will eventually serve students from primary to university levels of education. • The Meditation Park will be a secluded area next to the ancient Mahaparinirvana Temple, which commemorates Buddha Shakyamuni’s passing away from our world, the ancient Ramabhar Stupa, commemorating the Buddha’s holy cremation site, and monasteries and temples belonging to many different traditions of Buddhism that include both modern facilities and ancient ruins.

  29. อินเดีย The Statue of the Maitreya Buddha The center of the Maitreya Project, of course, is the bronze plate statue of the Maitreya Buddha itself. Rising 500ft/152m in height, the statue will sit on a stone throne temple building located in an enclosed sanctuary park. The statue will contain 15 individual shrine rooms and have a total height of 152 meters, with the highest shrine room in the statue's head, at over 140 meters up. This is roughly equivalent in height to a 40-storey skyscraper. The statue is itself an engineering marvel. Rather than simply be designed in its massive size, the statue of the Maitreya Buddha was actually reversed-designed from a carved statue only a meter and half in height and the structure's engineering extrapolated into its current form.

  30. อินเดีย Moreover, the statue is designed to stand for at least 1,000 years, supporting the Project's spiritual and social work for at least a millennium. Due to the statue's millenia-passing lifespan, the huge structure is designed to withstand high winds, extreme temperature changes, seasonal rains, possible earthquakes and floods and environmental pollution. Extensive research has gone into developing "Nikalium", the special nickel-aluminum bronze alloy to be used for the outer 'skin' of the statue designed to withstand the most challenging conditions that could conceivably arise. As the bronze 'skin' will expand and contract dramatically due to daily temperature changes, the statue will require special expansion joints that were designed to be not only invisible to the observer, but also in such a way as to protect the internal supports of the statue from water leakage, erosion and corrosion. The material and structural components of the statue are meant to be able to withstand potential unforseen disasters like earthquakes and monsoon flooding. The original statue from which the Maitreya Buddha statue tower is extrapolated from was hand carved, and is in the Indian Gupta style

  31. อินเดีย All of these features will be set in beautifully landscaped parks with meditation pavilions, beautiful water fountains and tranquil pools. All of the buildings and outdoor features will contain an extensive collection of inspiring sacred art. The Living Wall: Surrounding the Maitreya Buddha statue is a four-storey halo of buildings called the "Living Wall." This ring of buildings contains accomadation for the complex's monks and workers as well as rooms for functions ancillary to the statue and throne building. The wall also serves two additional important functions. In light of cross-border Islamist terrorist attacks against Indian holy sites in Ayodhya, Akshardham and Jama Masjid, the Living Wall also is designed to be a security cordon eqivalent to a modern castle wall, staffed with security personnel and designed to withstand an attack from 200 heavily armed raiders. The final major function it performs is that of the boundary for the enclosed sanctuary area of landscaped gardens, pools and fountains for meditation directly surrounding the Maitreya statue. The entry to the enclosed sanctuary and the Maitreya statue will be serviced by a main gate.

  32. อินเดีย Passing the ceremonial gate, landscaped paths allow devotes to do Pradakshina (circumambulation) of the Maitreya Statue. Within the sanctuary, the gardens provide a place for relaxing, resting, and meditating, with educational artwork depicting the Buddha's life. Walking further inward, the is Maitreya Statue and Throne Temple, surrounded by tranquil ponds and fountains that will cool the area in the intense Indian summer.

  33. อินเดีย The first major prayer hall of throne building, containing works of art on the Buddha. The Throne Temple: The "seat" of the statue is itelf a fully functioning 17-storey temple roughly 80m x 50m in size. The building will contain two very large prayer halls, as well as meditation and meeting rooms, a library and facilities to deal with the anticipated annual influx of 2 million visitors. Pilgrims will enter the throne temple through the giant lotus that supports the Maitreya Buddha statue's feet. The throne temple contains several entrance rooms that contain works of art on the Buddha's life and teachings. Continuing inward is the cavernous main auditorium of the Maitreya Temple containing the Sanctum Sanctorum which in Indian architectural tradition is the innermost most sacred room where the actual shrine is held. This Sanctum Sanctorum is unique in that within it contains two large auditorium temples.

  34. อินเดีย The first temple in the Sanctum Sanctorum is the Temple of the Maitreya Buddha, containing a huge, 12 meter tall statue of the Buddha. A wall containing 200,000 images of the Buddhas rises up to the throne ceiling over 50 metres above, behind both auditorium temples. A glimpse from the ambulatory of the side walls within the Maitreya Temple and the 1,000 paintings of the Buddhas. The centerpiece shrine of the Maitreya Temple is the 12 meter tall Maitreya Buddha. Stairs and elevators lead to viewing platforms around the Maitreya Temple, allowing views of the entire room.

  35. อินเดีย The next biggest shrine in the Sanctum Sanctorum is the Temple of the Shakyamuni Buddha which contains a 10 meter statue of the Shakyamuni (Historical) Buddha. Behind the shrine is the continuation of the wall of 200,000 Buddhas. On a higher level yet again, the Shakyamuni Temple will house a 10 metre (33 ft.) statue of the historical Buddha. The glass rear wall will reveal the wall of 200,000 Buddhas within the Maitreya Temple A view of the Maitreya Buddha statue and the wall of the 200,000 images of the Buddha, seen from viewing platforms.

  36. อินเดีย Another view of the Shakyamuni Temple In Indian architecture, the Sanctum Sanctorum is encircled by a pathway that allows devotees to do Pradakshina (circumambulation) of the shrine. The Maitreya Temple, following this tradition, also has this feature. The main throne building and Pradakshina path where visitors may circumambulate Sanctum Sanctorum of the Maitreya Temple, which can be seen through the doorways on the right

  37. อินเดีย From this area, elevators and staircases will carry visitors to the various other rooms in the 17 storey base, including prayer halls, meditation halls and libraries. Eventually conveying devotees to a large rooftop garden terrace upon which the Maitreya Buddha statue actually rests. Here, rising into the upper legs of the main statue, is the Merit Field Hall with a 10 meter, 3-dimensional depiction of over 390 Buddhas and Buddhist masters at it's center. Surrounding this will be 12 individual shrine rooms devoted to particular deities in the Hindu-Buddhist pantheon.

  38. อินเดีย Construction Status -- June, 2007 The Maitreya Project recently passed its first major milestone this month, when, in compliance with the Indian Land Acquistion Act, the State Government of Uttar Pradesh has completed the necessary legal requirements for the acquisition of the 750 acre land site to be made available to the Project. While there are still permissions and clearances to be obtained, it has now officially given the green light and the full support of the government. It is expected that the Project will formally break ground either later this year or early 2008, with an expected construction time of five years. The project will employ more than a thousand skilled and semi-skilled workers in the construction phase.

  39. อินเดีย Global Vipassana Pagoda Project

  40. อินเดีย Mumbai, October 12: The work for the World Vipassana Foundation’s pagoda, a replica of Myanmar’s Shwedagon pagoda, is in full swing. It will be completed by December next year. The pagoda, a dream project of S N Goyanka, who has taught vipassana to thousands of people in India and other countries, is situated near Gorai’s Essel World area.

  41. อินเดีย The ceremony of placing sacred relics of Gautam Buddha in pagoda will be done by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 29. This unique pagoda will be about 325 feet high.

  42. อินเดีย The Maha Bodhi Association of India has donated sacred relics of Gautam Buddha to be enshrined in the pagoda. Buddhists in Myanmar have also donated materials for the pagoda. It includes 850 marble rocks with the size of one cubic meter each for flooring the pagoda compound; 150,000 square feet of parquet for laying the floor of the cave; timber for crafting Myanmar decorations and 90 door frames; the sacred gold umbrella; stone Buddha statues including 28 2.5 feet high vipassana-practising Buddha statues in various mudras (postures); 18-feet high Buddha statue in sitting position; eight 5.5-feet high standing Buddha statues and donations totaling to $23 million will be spent in building this pagoda. The pagoda will contain a 280-feet diameter cave with no supporting columns. It will be the largest rock cave in the world. Unlike other pagodas, it will not be a solid brick structure, but with a spacious cave in which thousands of yogis can practice vipassana at the same time.

  43. อินเดีย According to the World Vipassana Foundation, the pagoda will be a vehicle for the spread of Buddha’s teachings that emphatically opposes any sectarian, casteism and religious dogmas. His teachings have already proved to be an ideal bridge for peace, tolerance and harmony across all the communal and regional divides splintering India today.

  44. อินเดีย The strongly secular nature of vipassana is further proved by its acceptance amongst people of all religions, nations, sects and socio-cultural backgrounds. Vipassana courses are taking root in even some of the staunchly sectarian countries. This monument will be an added focus of attraction to visitors and tourists worldwide, who visit our ancient country for its rich cultural traditions and its magnificent knowledge in the spiritual field. The sheer size, grandeur and architectural style of the pagoda itself will be sufficient to gain its entry into tourist maps. Even the tourists, who visit the pagoda, as merely another monument for sight seeing, will get great opportunity to receive the true teachings of the enlightened one, understand their benefits and may be inspired to follow the practical path of vipassana.
