  3. Functions of management • Planning • Organizing • Leading • Controlling

  4. Planning • Setting organizational goals • To earn more money  donations • Developing strategies to reach those goals • More items in vending machine; crane machine; more active taobao service; • Determining resources needed • Resources  seed money; customers • Setting precise standards

  5. Leading • Guiding and motivating employees to work effectively to accomplish organizational goals and objectives • Pizza party • Giving assignments • Different officers: different jobs • Explaining routines • Clarifying policies • ‘firing’ officers • Providing feedback on performance

Organizing • Allocating resources, assigning, tasks, and establishing procedures for accomplishing goals • Different committees (taobao, vending machine, international fair) • Preparing a structure (organization chart) showing lines of authority and responsibility • Have to know what exactly is going on at ALL TIMES • Recruiting, selecting, training, and developing employees • Application forms for FBLA • Placing employees where they’ll be most effective • Taobao committees (juniors and seniors) • International fair committees (freshmans)

  7. Controlling • Measuring results against corporate objectives • Results: comparison with last years • Monitoring performance relative to standards • Rewarding outstanding performance • Awards for Best Member • Taking corrective action when necessary

  9. Strengths • Safeguarded club: no two clubs with same concept • MONOPOLY • Numberless opportunities • International fair • Vending machine (no electricity fee) • New students, new teachers

  10. Weaknesses • Before: No clear goal • Lack of enthusiastic members • Weak market image: “where does the money go?”

  11. Opportunities • Ability to grow and become more service-oriented • Future Business Leaders of America • Association with Other clubs (Investment Club)  New projects • A lot of money in the bank • A lot more opportunities

  12. Threats • Slower market growth • Limited amount of students and teachers • Changing buyer needs and tastes • Products in vending machine  customers get used to it • Costly regulatory requirements • New rules by Ms. Doleman and Executive Council
