  1. Assessment/Evaluation Determine Desired Outcomes Determine Activities to achieve outcome Determine Indicators to measure whether you are making progress

  2. Assessment/Evaluation Outcomes Reasonable and Realistic for period of grant funding Not overly idealistic Foundation for future programs

  3. Assessment/Evaluation Activities Interventions you will provide Service or Information Clearly Defined

  4. Assessment/Evaluation Indicators Process Indicators – The quantity and quality of activities you are delivering Outcome Indicators – The outcomes that your program is delivering Must clearly define both Want to avoid grantmaker asking the question – “So What?”

  5. Assessment/Evaluation Indicators Process Indicators – The quantity and quality of activities you are delivering Provide important feedback before you can expect to see evidence that outcomes are being achieved

  6. Assessment/Evaluation Indicators Outcome Indicators – The outcomes that your program is delivering Clear quantitative and qualitative measures of outcomes/impact Quantitative measures Qualitative Narratives

  7. Assessment/Evaluation Exercise Methods: Quantitative Data: Number of people served Percentage change in outcome Qualitative Data Survey/Interview of staff Survey/Interview of participants Observation of process Once you are relatively certain that group consensus has been reached, you should record your program outcomes, activities, and indicators in the form of a spreadsheet.

  8. Assessment/Evaluation Exercise Divide Back Into Groups Address Following Discussion Questions: What are the DESIRED OUTCOMES of the program? What are the goals? What are we trying to accomplish within the next month/quarter/year(s)? How will we get there? What ACTIVITIES will enable us to reach our outcomes? What will INDICATE to us that we are making progress toward the desired outcomes?

  9. Assessment/Evaluation OUTCOME 1:

  10. Assessment/Evaluation The value of assessment/evaluation discussion: • Empowers program stakeholders and enables them to come to consensus on: • The most important program outcomes • key activities • realistic indicators. • When done with integrity the discussion will have a dual effect: • it will clarify the central purpose of the initiative and its corresponding outcomes, activities and indicators • it will foster collaboration among stakeholders.
