  5. Globe • A round map of the earth

  6. Hemisphere • “Half the Earth”

  7. Continent • One of the seven mai n land areas on the Earth • North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Europe,

  8. Equator • An imaginary line that is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole

  9. Vocabulary Words- Lesson 2 • Cooperate • Citizens • Government • Laws • consequence • Mayor • Judge • responsibilities

  10. Cooperate • Work together • Mrs. Kackley’s class will cooperate to build their communities.

  11. Citizens • The people who live in a community • How manycitizenslive in Canfield?

  12. Government • A group of citizens who make the rules for a community • The government of the United States is a democracy.

  13. Laws • Written rules for a community used to keep it safe • We must obey all the traffic laws in order to be safe.

  14. Consequence • Something that happens as a result of an action • If you don’t obey the law, you will suffer the consequence and go to jail.

  15. Mayor • The leader of a city or town • Mr. Kay is the mayor of Canfield.

  16. Judges • Citizens who are chosen to work in the courts; they decide if a person has broken the law • There are nine judges, called Justices, on the U. S. Supreme Court.

  28. Founders • The people who first start a community
