  3. You know that you can add or subtract mixed numbers! There are many strategies for adding. Here’s one: 4 5/8 + 2 6/8 = ? Add the whole numbers: 4+ 2 = 6 Add the fractions: 5/8 + 6/8 = 11/8 Write 11/8 as a whole number and fraction: 11/8 = 8/8 + 3/8 11/8= 1 + 3/8 = 1 3/8 Combine: 6 + 1 3/8 = 7 3/8
