3. WHAT IS MOVE ON WHEN READY? The MOWR program is an opportunity for qualified high school students to earn college credits. The student is “jointly” enrolled in high school and in college. The student can be a full time or part time college student. The student earns college credits as well as high school credits needed for graduation.

4. Cost of Dual Enrollment (MOWR) • NO mandatory fees- these are waived! • NO book fees- these are provided by the post-secondary institution as part of the MOWR legislation. • Some classes do have a fee for an online component.

5. How much money can I save? • One year of college= 30 credit hours • Cost of one year of college credits at Georgia Tech= $25,000 • Cost of one year of college credits at UGA= $25,000 • Cost of one year of college credits earned through Dual Enrollment= FREE • The ONLY cost may be for online resources! Very minimal!

6. Once a Bear…Always a Bear • Students who attend GGC (or other institutions) • Are still considered MVHS Bears • Can participate in MVHS athletics, clubs, activities • Can attend Prom • Can attend Graduation • Can take classes at MVHS too • But most students find it is easier to take classes at GGC only • Say they LOVE it and wish they started earlier. • Do NOT have to come to MVHS • Only attend college classes

7. WHERE CAN I ATTEND? A student may apply to attend any participating public college, private college, or technical college in Georgia.

8. Eligibility Requirements • You must be a high school student entering the junior or senior year • A minimum of 26 Reading Test and 500 Math Section Scores • OR, a minimum of 21 English and 19 Mathematics score on the ACT and at least a composite score of 20. • COMPASS test scores cannot be used to satisfy this requirement • A high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in courses taken from the required College Preparatory Curriculum unit • Submit a MOWR Student Participation Agreement (PDF) • A plan to complete the University System of Georgia College Preparatory Curriculum requirement on schedule • You must take courses from the approved MOWR courses list found on gafutures.

9. Eligibility Requirements • No Minimum GPA requirement • Submit SAT/ACT scores to GTC and/or make a satisfactory grade on the Accuplacer exam • Be enrolled in the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade of public high school in Georgia • Be admitted to Gwinnett Tech as a dual credit enrollment student • Be enrolled in courses listed in the approved Move On When Ready Course Directory • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the eligible postsecondary institution (college or university).

10. Eligibility Requirements • Junior and/or Senior in high school. If you will be younger than 16 years of age on the first day of classes, your parents must send a letter to the director of admissions describing your ability to be successful in the dual enrollment program. • Cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher in your Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) coursework. • You must present at least a 26 on the Reading Section and a 480 on the math section. • or ACT composite of 20 with minimum scores of 20 English and 18 math. • Must take courses from the approved MOWR courses list found on gafutures.com. • Must enroll in a bachelor's degree program at UNG.

Eligibility Requirements • You must be a high school student entering the junior or senior year • Be on track for graduation • A high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 • Minimum test scores; ACT Requirement: 23 English and 23 Math, SAT Requirement: 530 Verbal (Critical Reading) and 530 Math • You must take courses from the approved MOWR courses list

13. WHAT ABOUT TRANSFER CREDIT? • It is the student’s responsibility to talk with colleges regarding their policies on accepting transfer credit.

HOW DOES GRADING WORK? • If the student fails a class, it could jeopardize graduation! • No points are added to the final grade (exception – 10 pts. are added to Georgia Tech –Calculus II). • All MOWR classes are included on the high school transcript. • If colleges provide the high school with letter grades, the high school will transcribe the letter grade to the midpoint of the grading scale. A = 95 B = 85 C = 77 D = 72 F = 55 • NO EOCs for Dual Enrollment students.

15. GRADE CONVERSON ►1 - 2 semester hour college classes = .5 HS credit. ►3 - 5 semester hour college classes = 1.0 HS credit. Note: Science labs will receive .5 HS credit and will count toward elective credit. They will not count toward fourth science requirement.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS? • CONS • Students must keep up with important Junior/Senior High School information. • Some colleges prefer a different curriculum path (i.e. AP classes). • Student must make a C or better to earn college credit • Colleges will not communicate with parents of MOWR students. PROS • Students get a free head start on college. • Students earn college credit while in high school • Students get to take classes off the high school campus • Students are still MVHS students

17. BE AWARE!!! • A student must meet the entrance requirements of the college. • It is the student’s responsibility to register for the correct classes as advised by the MOWR Coordinator. • The student is responsible for ALL interaction with the college. The college will not speak with a parent or the MOWR Coordinator regarding the student. • Students must have all schedule changes approved by the MOWR Coordinator. • Holidays such as Spring Break may be different from the Gwinnett County holidays. • Students must provide an official transcript to the MOWR Coordinator after every semester in order to receive high school credit.

18. MOWR REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE • All students attending eligible public or private high schools or a home student program • Must be classified as a 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grader • No residency or citizenship requirement • Must be admitted to postsecondary institution • Cannot be graduated already • Advisement form signed by student and parent • Eligible for summer study • MOWR does not count against HOPE cap • Can be denied participation for violation of secondary or postsecondary rules.

HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE MOWRPolicies and ProceduresThe following steps should be followed if you are planning to participate in the MOWR Program: ____1.Attend a Parent/Student Information Meeting. ____2.Schedule SAT/ACT ASAP, Request scores to be sent to the college of your choice. ____3. Complete the MOWR packet. Due to Ms. Mason by December 16th. ____4. OFF CAMPUS ONLY. Schedule MOWR meeting online with Counselor to complete Student Participation Form. MOWR meeting does not replace a Junior Conference. You must schedule Junior Conferences separately.

20. Policies and Procedures ____5.Complete Part I of the online MOWR application on Gafutures. ____6. Apply to and be accepted by the college/ university of your choice. ____7. Request your transcript to be sent to the college of your choice on mypaymentsplus for $5. OFF CAMPUS ONLY ____8. Request your SAT/ACT scores to be sent to the college of your choice on collegeboard (SAT) and/or actstudent.org. OFF CAMPUS ONLY

21. Policies and Procedures ____9. After receiving your acceptance from the college/university, contact your MOWR Coordinator. ____8. Meet with your college advisor to set your college schedule. ____10. At the end of the semester, provide a copy of your college/university grades and an official transcript to your MOWR Coordinator in a timely manner. *Repeat steps 5, 6, 8 and 10 for all semesters of participation.

MOWR Deadlines Fall 2016 • Student must turn in completed MOWR packet • Due : December 16th • Sign up to take SAT/ACT ASAP January 2017 • Off Campus: Schedule MOWR appt with Ms Mason to complete Student Participation Agreement. • On Campus: Students will be moved into Bear time to complete additional paperwork. February 21 and 22 • Accuplacer Test at MVHS April 1 • Summer Application Deadline May 1st • Fall Application Deadline TBD • Mandatory meeting at MVHS to register for classes
