  5. Sophomore/Junior Checklist • Transcripts- credits, GPA, diploma type • Plan for after high school- college, military, work • Research colleges - college visits, home vs. away, cost, required high school courses for a major • Stay involved- clubs, organizations, sports, volunteering, jobs/job shadow • PSAT – grades 10 & 11 • ISTEP – grade 10 (late Winter, Spring) • SAT School Day (Spring) – grade 11 • Strong momentum all through the school year • Colleges, jobs, military – all look at the transcripts

  6. New DOE Graduation Requirements 3 BUCKETS! (if ISTEP is NOT passed)

  7. Taken from the DOE website: • These recommendations seek to ensure that every Hoosier student graduates from high school with: • a broad awareness of and engagement with individual career interests and associated career options 2) a strong foundation of academic and technical skills 3) demonstrable employability skills that lead directly to meaningful opportunities for postsecondary education, training, and gainful employment.

  9. BUCKET #2Some sort of hands-on training to demonstrate good work habits of responsibility, self motivation, organization, etc:- Work- Sports

  10. BUCKET #3Student’s Pathway to a Diploma: • ISTEP is the most ideal pathway • If ISTEP is not passed and the family agrees to “opt out” of the ISTEP, then the “buckets” must be met

  11. BUCKET #3 continued…The Student’s Pathway other than ISTEP can be 1 of the below options: • Academic Honors Diploma • 3 AP classes with a C or better both semesters for a total of 6 credits • SAT scores: • Math 530 or higher • English 480 or higher • ASVAB score of 31 or higher (need not to be military bound) • Attend the Area Career Center and receive 6 credits of a C or better • Locally created pathway

  13. And if none of the above are successful – this is NOT the IDEAL path The student must have: - 95 % attendance ALL 4 years - taken ONE of the ISTEP, SAT, or ASVAB for a combination of least 3 times - a 2.0 or better GPA - have a plan of college, military, or work for after high school WITH proof
