  1. English Blog Home / Blog / AI becoming a powerful tool in political campaigning Report AI becoming a powerful tool in political campaigning Published 02 June 2025 Share this post: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly become the latest and most dynamic tool in the hands of political parties and campaign strategists across India, especially to connect with the ever-crucial young voter demographic. With tech- savvy youth dominating social media and digital platforms, political outfits are now adapting their outreach methods, and AI is proving to be a game-changer. What’s particularly astonishing is how AI is being used to recreate the voices and images of leaders from the past — individuals who are no longer alive but whose words and charisma still resonate with millions. These digital reincarnations are being deployed to stir emotions, invoke nostalgia, and strengthen party identity. Shiv Sena UBT recreated Bal Thackeray's voice One of the most striking examples comes from Maharashtra, where the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) has embraced AI in a big way ahead of the upcoming civic polls. In April, the party used artificial intelligence to recreate the voice of its late founder Bal Thackeray. Known for his powerful speeches and distinctive tone, Thackeray’s AI-generated voice addressed party workers at an event in Nashik, capturing the attention of both loyal supporters and curious observers. The local elections are critical for political survival of Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena and therefore party is now relying on the image and charisma of its founding leader Bala Saheb. Further expanding its digital outreach, the party has also introduced an AI-generated news anchor for Saamana, its party mouthpiece. The move is seen as a blend of tradition and technology — maintaining the ideological tone of the publication while giving it a modern, interactive interface for younger audiences. Also Read: Just like Delhi will AI become a Star Campaigner in Bihar Too? Social media parody account recreated Pandit Nehru to roast BJP But Shiv Sena (UBT) isn’t alone in exploring AI’s political potential. Across the political landscape, AI tools are being used to entertain, engage, and even troll. A popular parody account on X (formerly Twitter) has recently gone viral for using AI-generated images of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, in satirical posts that show him “taking the blame” for present-day issues — a direct dig at the ruling BJP’s frequent references to Nehru in political debates. AAP & BJP's AI spoofs Meanwhile, the rivalry between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP in Delhi has taken a digital twist. During recent elections, both parties employed AI spoofs — creating altered voiceovers, synthetic videos, and satirical content to mock each other. These AI-driven jabs not only drew attention online but also highlighted how political discourse is shifting into new digital territory. Bottom Line While AI offers a powerful platform for innovation and connection, it also raises important questions around ethics, authenticity, and regulation. As lines blur between reality and recreation, concerns grow about misinformation and emotional manipulation in campaigns. Still, it’s clear that AI is here to stay in Indian politics. From rally speeches delivered by voices from the past to AI avatars running party newsrooms, the future of political campaigning is being rewritten — byte by byte. And as young voters scroll, swipe, and stream their way through campaign season, AI might just be the loudest voice they hear. Quick Links Contact Us About Us S1, Bidla Sons, Ajmer Road,
