ASCAT Fan Beam Two 550 km swaths 660km nadir gap C-band radar 25km resolution RMS wind speed and direction: 1.72 m/s, 18° Biased low for wind speeds greater than 20 m/s QuikSCAT Conical scanning Pencil beam: 40 & 46 degree incidence angles No nadir gap 12.5 km resolution Root Mean Squared differences wind speed and direction: 1.2-1.7 m/s, 14-15° 10% of received measurements are rain contaminated, biased high by about 2-4 m/s ASCAT vs QuikSCAT
