  1. The Dangers of Pharmaceuticals: A Guide to Good Health “A lot of people take pharmaceuticals on a daily basis. Whether they’re over-the-counter meds like Advil or prescription medications, the fact is that we use drugs more than ever before in order to keep our bodies healthy and functioning properly. The problem, however, is that not all drugs are safe to use, which can be dangerous and even life-threatening if used improperly or under the wrong conditions. This guide on the dangers of pharmaceuticals will help you spot harmful drug interactions so you can make better choices about the meds you want to use in your everyday life.”

  2. Side Effects “A growing number of people are becoming sick and tired of the side effects that come with pharmaceutical drugs. In fact, we should all be getting a little more worried about the side effects because they can be serious, even life-threatening.  For instance, did you know that acetaminophen is known to cause liver damage? This drug is found in medications such as Tylenol, which is an over-the-counter pain reliever. Another example of a harmful drug is diethylpropion, which has been linked to heart attacks and strokes. Other examples include diphenhydramine (sleep medication), hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic), metronidazole (an antibiotic), and amitriptyline (a sedative). You may also want to take note that some psychiatric drugs, like Zoloft and Prozac, have caused suicidal thoughts among users. If you or someone else in your family takes any of these drugs, it's important to keep your eye on how he/she responds throughout their treatment.”

  3. Long term effects “There are many side effects that people do not know about when taking pharmaceutical drugs. Some include anxiety, depression, weight gain, hair loss, and the list goes on. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, there may be a drug that is triggering it. It is important to speak with your doctor if you think that you may need an alternative drug or treatment plan. Some of these alternatives could involve over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen. In some cases, even surgery could be necessary. Medical doctors can also prescribe non-pharmaceutical options for chronic conditions like arthritis. Diet and exercise are also very important in combating these chronic conditions.  One popular option is a physical therapy which can help improve joint mobility by stretching muscles around joints through repetitive exercises. These exercises teach muscles how to better stabilize joints which can result in less pain in the long run. The goal of physical therapy is to reduce stress on joints which results in relief from pain and stiffness.”

  4. Drug interactions “Many people are not aware that combining prescription drugs can lead to negative outcomes. For example, taking a common antibiotic and pain reliever together can lead to stomach bleeding or kidney failure. To avoid these dangerous combinations, it is important for patients with chronic illnesses who take multiple medications to make sure they talk openly with their doctor about the different drugs they are on. Patients should also be vigilant in checking labels carefully to ensure they do not accidentally ingest too many medications at one time. It is also important for patients to know what other prescriptions their family members have because one medication could interact negatively with another medication prescribed by another doctor in the household.”

  5. What are you really treating? “Yes, pharmaceutical drugs are miraculous in that they can save a person's life. But what if the person doesn't need savings? What if they just want to feel better and have a better quality of life? Is it worth it for them to be taking these things that do nothing but change their brain chemistry and make them feel like zombies because those benefits will only last as long as the medication is in their system? Do you know when you don't really feel anything anymore? That's called apathy. Apathy is not good for anyone, and I'm not just saying that because my husband got hooked on his painkillers after an accident at work years ago. If you're feeling apathetic about your current lifestyle or job, then there might be a reason why!”
