They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read. Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible. Mark in the diary where they have read to so we can read with them or we know to send the same book home! Its not a race! 9. How can you support your child at home? • Read on a daily basis. • Talk to your children about their day. What have they learnt that’s new?
