  2. Campus Life… What kind of things do students get up to on campus? What can you expect in your first week at Manchester?

  3. Freshers’ Week… A week of social & induction activities for first year students The Freshers’ Fair… sign up for university clubs and societies The Freshers’ Ball marks the start of your university life

  4. Then what happens? Society events… whether you’ve joined the debating society, the dance society or the cocktails society, they’ll have plenty of socials planned! Hall events… including annual balls, sports teams, quizzes, bars and clubs Course activities… depending what you study, you could be involved in field trips, theatre trips, etc. A new city… if you’re moving away to university, you can explore your new surroundings

The Students’ Union • Most students’ unions are members of the National Union of Students, giving representation on a national level • NUS 10% discount card • Join clubs and societies • Volunteering and fundraising • Student newspapers and radio stations • Part-time jobs Creative writing, choir and orchestra, dance, drama, debating, film, french, hiking, gaming, LGBT, rag, music, photographic, stop the war, juggling, theatre, linguistics, art, entrepreneurs, amnesty international, cocktail, indie…

  9. How does it work? • Assessment • Coursework • Essays, presentations, • laboratory work, tests • Exams • ‘Seen’ exams, open/closed • book, performance • Timetabling • Contact time between 6 and 30 hours per week • Personal study accounts for a large proportion of time

  10. University Sport There is plenty of opportunity to get fit and active while you are at university as well!
