How Do Heavy Users Affect the Net? • Heavy users drive total network capacity • Some Internet features are Expensive • Many to Many • All users can get everywhere • Routes around damage • Heavy applications don’t need all this • Capacity + Routing drives cost. Solution: • Offload heavy users to simple, private networks • Expensive networks for the many with low volume • Cheap networks for the few with lots of traffic

Summary • NORDUfiber is a state-of-the-art hybrid network, with DWDM, SDH, Ethernet and IP layers. It will be operational in Q2 2007 • NORDUnet and NDGF will offer services at layer 4 and above • NORDUnet and NDGF will continue to evolve – AAI, multi-domain provisioning, storage services, etc.
