FreeFlyer Overview • Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software for spacecraft mission design, analysis, and operations • In use at civilian, DoD, commercial, and international facilities, including NASA JSC, GSFC, KSC, and MSFC • Missions supported in LEO, MEO, GEO, heliocentric, Sun-Earth L1, Sun-Earth L2, lunar, and interplanetary orbit regimes • FreeFlyer is providing all flight dynamics functionality for the modernization of the JSC Mission Control Center and is scheduled to be used operationally for ISS, MPCV, Commercial Crew, and other future missions

Key FreeFlyer Features & Benefits • FreeFlyer is a single astrodynamics tool that provides key features required across all aspects of the Asteroid Redirect Mission: • Propagation and trajectory design • Coverage and contact analysis • Maneuver targeting and modeling • Attitude modeling • Orbit determination • Interplanetary mission design • Spacecraft hardware modeling • 2D and 3D visualizations • Customizable reports and plots • External interfacing • Flexible logic control through a native scripting language • Scalable, configurable software supports rapid development and deployment to quickly meet the needs of the mission

Asteroid Observation • Orbit determination for asteroids and spacecraft • Processing of ground- and space-based observations • Initial OD, Batch Least Squares, Kalman Filters, used in any combination • Estimation of position, velocity, coefficient of reflectivity, unmodeled accelerations • Estimation of an unlimited number of objects concurrently • Candidate asteroid analysis • Customizable visibility constraint modeling (field of view, range, size, lighting) • Filtering by any characteristics (orbit, rotation rate) • Modeling and visualization of attitude state and physical properties

Asteroid Redirect Mission Planning • Environment modeling • Capability to model high-fidelity spherical harmonic or polyhedral gravity for all planets and other bodies in the solar system • Extensibility to model any force including SRP, tides, albedo, and Yarkovsky effect • Mission design and trade studies • Impulsive and finite maneuvers • Chemical and electric propulsion • Differential correction for maneuver targeting • Analyze maneuver profiles for reaching and redirecting candidate asteroids to lunar distant retrograde orbit • Determine fuel usage, delta-V, and time of flight to assess overall candidacy Earth Moon

Summary • FreeFlyer satisfies requirements across all phases of the mission • Asteroid observation, redirection, and crewed exploration • FreeFlyer is already in use at JSC for the ground systems for ISS and MPCV • Utilization of FreeFlyer for the Asteroid Redirect Mission (ARM) will be a natural progression for NASA • Additional participants in the ARM that also use FreeFlyer will benefit from access to models and interfaces used by NASA and other organizations • Using a standardized and validated tool prevents duplication of work and decreases the cost of development and maintenance for each user www.freeflyer.com
