  2. Eye health is one of the most important part of healthcare and every adult and children should have a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year. But simply visiting a local optics store and updating eye glasses or contact lens prescription is not enough. Hence, it is important to understand the difference between a comprehensive eye examination and a visions test. Simply put, vision test are not thorough and does not give as deep an insight into your eye health, whereas eye exams are performed by a certified Optometrist. Taking it up a notch, eye exams for seniors are much more comprehensive testing and cover a range of vision problem that are common among the elderly. Pediatric eye exams are also vital for the eye health of children during their developmental phase and in helping them with their academics.

  3. VISION TESTS Visions tests are used to identify undetected vision problems in people. A person is tested for many things during screening, including symptoms of major eye problems, and if any major issues are detected, the usual recommendation is to opt for an appointment with optometrist or ophthalmologist for in-depth examination. These tests are important as a part of preventive health care. Many eye and vision problems goes unrecognized for years before showing any obvious signs or symptoms, so a patient might not be aware that a problem exists. Early screening and treatment of vision problems can help prevent vision loss through medication or eye surgery.

  4. EYE EXAMS Comprehensive eye examinations are an in-depth diagnosis performed by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist. A patient is examined not only for visual acuity and color blindness but also for signs of serious eye problems, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, detached retina and cataracts. It is advisable to have vision problems treated if they are detected early on. During these eye exams, early signs of serious health problems can also be detected, including high blood pressure as well as the risk of stroke and diabetes.

  5. EYE EXAMS FOR SENIORS On the far end of the age scale, eye exams for seniors should be conducted once every year to ensure eye health. Most common causes of blindness, whether its glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration increase with age. Vision loss often can be reduced or prevented through eye surgery if these conditions are diagnosed and treated early on. V I S I O N A S S O C I A T E S I N C .

  6. PEDIATRIC EYE CARE Eye care for children is critical to their development and in thwarting off potential future vision problems. Most of the curriculum in schools is presented visually and vision problems can hold back the educational capacity of children. It has been estimated that 20 percent of preschool children have vision problems and more than 24 percent of adolescents have correctable refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, myopia or astigmatism. Most of these problems persist throughout their lifetime and vision is not fully corrected with up-to-date prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. In addition, children who use computers and other digital devices are at a higher risk of vision problems.

  7. DIABETIC EYE EXAM In addition to all these vision problems, patients can also be afflicted with diabetic retinopathy, which a serious complication that is more likely to occur in people with Type 1 diabetes. This disease may also develop in anyone with diabetes. Controlling blood glucose content can significantly reduce the incidence and severity but the only way to recognize this and other eye problems in their earliest and most treatable stages is to have regular, comprehensive eye examinations.

  8. CONCLUSION Eye examinations and vision screenings are mostly painless and innocuous procedures that are done by trained professionals. In the hindsight, every individual should have their eye checked to avoid future complications. After all, without vision, life would indeed be dull and mind- numbingly tedious.
