  5. Design Choice Self Starting Problem • Place a smaller Savonius Turbine inside as the starter.

  7. Design Choice Safety • Shut-off gear for high winds • Mounting brackets designed with factor of safety.

  8. Electrical System Three Main Stages: • Three-Phase AC power generator • Inverter • Bidirectional Meter

  9. Electrical System Three Phase • Three Phase allows for constant instantaneous power. • Amount of wiring needed is less then single phase.

  11. Electrical System Inverter • Rectifies 3-phase signal to regulated DC • Inverts DC to single phase AC • Important to meet NSPI net-metering agreement

  12. Electrical System Bidirectional Meter • New meter required to show power generated to grid. • Allows resident to take advantage of net-metering.

  13. Material Choices • Aluminum • Low density • Good strength • Steel • High density • High strength • Composite materials • Low Density • Strength can be designed to needs • Timeline
