  3. FAQ Lava The words underlinedred like this are important keywords. The Explanation page buttons are not always on the bottom right corner of the page. When it glows the explanation is over Choose any of the following for an explanation. What happens during volcanic eruptions: Simple eruption Zoom in/lava Molten rock Smoke

  4. CENSORED NO VOLCANOES WERE HURT DURING THE MAKING OF THIS PRESENTATION… This is where the red hot magma gets out. This is where the magma chamber is. Here’s the Mantle. Here are the parts of a volcano eruption… This part is the Earth’s crust. That’s better. We did not get frosting stuck on the screen right? GOOD! Down there is magma. Good to go! BUT it will no longer be called magma after… Let’s look underground… We’re here to look at Pahoehoe lava. When the magma is out of the volcano it is called lava. There are different types of lava. Ooo! Pahoehoe is runny lava Like this: It’s pronounced pa-hoy-hoy. THIS! How does the magma get out? This question can be answered with the IMAGINATION! Let’s say this balloon is the Earth’s crust. Something AMAZING! Inside the Earth’s crust is the magma chamber as shown before. Something like… And let’s say something happened to the earth’s crust… Lucky for you it’s almost MY birthday ! STOP! You can go back to the explanation page now. In other words if there is a crack in the earth’s crust the magma escapes. BOOM! EVERYTHING GOES… How are we supposed to look in a volcano from here? Volcanoes can be dormant, extinct, or active. We are here to look at active volcanoes. Cake knife! Which calls for… Red-hot magma Earth’s crust Mantle Magma chamber

  5. You might have already know about those. If you don’t you could always go back to the explanation page. And click on simple eruption. Anyway… We’re here to see Pillow Lava Some bubbles of magma float up and erupt through Somewhere close to the volcano is more mantle the ocean’s crust! Zeolite: A glassy crystal of oxygen, silicon and various types of metals. A simple uncut diamond in volcanic rock from the mantle. Agate: Formed in a bubble inside magma IT MAKES GREAT DECORATION! It looks boring when uncut but when cut… This is what cut olivine looks like: OK! Olivine: Shiny stone containing iron & magnesium You can find other things like… These can be cut and polished into gems. Some can be rare and precious… CRYSTALS! Can you see me? When molten lava cools, the minerals inside slowly turn into… CRYSTAL and GEMS Back to land! It’s called pillow lava because they look like stone pillows! It cools and forms into large bubbles of lava See what happened? When magma wells up under the sea, RED Well I guess I wouldn’t have to tell you that lava is So let’s zoom in. So I’ll tell about crystals and gems first. But I can see the girls are all wondering about the diamonds. Normally I would tell you about each type of lava from beginning to end… You can make CRYSTALS and GEMS out of minerals in lava too! Pronounced well Pillow lava I’m sure you’ve seen lava in lot’s of video games… It’s pronounced Ah-ah. It’s pronounced Pa-hoy-hoy. Like Pahoehoe, Although there are types of lava. LIKE CHILI SAUCE! HOT, Aa, Pillow lava, To see the next type of lava we have to go underwater Or coils of rope! You can go back to the explanation page now. Jagged and crumbly, Aa lava is formed Although Pahoehoe is very runny When it cools it looks like wrinkled skin. when the molten rock cools down on contact with air. Now let’s talk about Aa lava. Closer… Red-hot Magma Earth’s Crust Magma chamber Mantle

  6. Can you see me? Good! It’s time to see some volcanic action! It means well, dead. In other words it will never erupt again. Olympus Mons is now extinct. New layers are formed… Sometimes it takes to about a year for a volcano to grow from small to big It hardens. Although Olympus Mons is dead now… Well let’s just say LIFE’S HUGE WHILE IT LASTED! It is now 3 times larger than mount Everest. You can go back to the explanation page now. This is not the same with dormant. Dormant means it will erupt again after a while. Let’s spot Mars to see what Olympus Mons looked like years ago… When the lava cools… Well… Ever wondered how Olympus Mons became the largest volcano ever seen by humans? Closer Nasa Nasa

  7. Anyway… In a beautiful moment like this, all I can say is… THAT WAS NOT ME!!! These clouds can sometimes stay in the sky for so long it looks black! BLACK! Dust and ash turned the sky black. When the dust fell on land, everything fell on the trees, houses and other things everything goes… Ash, dust and dangerous gases down the volcano! In fact when Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991, it threw out HUGE amounts of When volcanoes erupt ashes and dust come out! Can you see me? Volcanologists use protective suits like this so they can study volcanoes. You can go back to the explanation page now. Let’s stand in a volcano! Here’s a preview… Clouds of ash and dust from volcanoes are dangerous. GREYHEADEDNESS. It causes stuff like starvation, darkness and
