The Assignment 1. Follow the prompts in this PowerPoint to help you conduct your research. Record your sources!! 2. Create a 5-slide PowerPoint about your group’s assigned topic with which you will use to teach the class • BE CREATIVE: use lots of IMAGES and few words – NO complete sentences • All words must be at least 30 point font • The slides must be visually appealing • You can use noise/music as long as it is appropriate • You may use note cards • Project your voices!!! Practice & know how to pronounce everything
The Assignment Continued 3. Create a works cited page of your resources using MLA format as the 6th slide of your PowerPoint (click here for help with how to cite a website) 4. Create 3 multiple-choice test questions about your topic – do not make the wrong answers obvious – type these in Word and print them out. Make sure the answers for all three questions are smoothly integrated into your presentation.

Salem Witch Trials • Answer these questions in your presentation using the cites listed in the green box • Approximately when did the Salem witch trials take place? • What are some possible causes for the hysteria in Salem? • What event concerning the Parris children ignited the hysteria? • What types of punishment were used for those accused of witchcraft? • What happened to those who did not confess to witchcraft? • How many lives did the Salem trials ultimately claim? McCarthyism & The Crucible • First, investigate McCarthyism using this worksheet • Second, read about how McCarthyism is in The Crucible by typing in “The Crucible” into the Worldbook Online which is linked to the media center website in the virtual library. Presentation: 1. Explain McCarthyism to the class with the answers you found to the worksheet 2. Explain to the class how Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as a veiled (hidden) criticism of McCarthyism.
Cold War • Explain the Cold War to the class using KEY information from the Worldbook Online which is linked to the media center website in the virtual library. • You only need to read the information on the Worldbook up to the first sub section called “the coming of the Cold War” • I recommend printing out the article then highlighting the information you think you will use during the presentation • How could you present this topic in a creative way with your PowerPoint??
