What Am I?

What Am I?. “I am in the food you eat and the air you breathe. You bring me into your home, use me, and dispose of me every day. Some animals live and die in me. Most of your body is made of me. I shape the weather and your world. Few other things are so important, and yet are treated so poorly”

Water in Our World: Fast Facts • About 70% of the Earth is covered in water • About 97% of this is salt water (oceans and seas) • About 2% of this is solid fresh water (ice and snow) • Only 1% is in the form of liquid water (lakes and rivers) • About 70% of an adult’s body is made up of water • Canada has about 25% of the world's wetlands – the largest wetland area in the world. • You can survive about a month without food, but on average only 5 to 7 days without water. http://www.rdck.bc.ca/environmental/water/water_quick_facts.html

  15. If all of the world's water were fit into a one gallon jug, the fresh water available for us to use would equal only about one tablespoon. • 50% of the world’s wetlands have been lost since 1900 • One fifth of the world's freshwater fish -- 2,000 of 10,000 species identified -- are endangered, vulnerable, or extinct. • One billion people lack access to safe drinking water • Each day almost 10,000 children under the age of 5 in Third World countries die as a result of illnesses contracted by use of impure water.
