  1. Cinderella By Megan Devine

  2. Story idea Illustrations and animation For both the illustrations and animation, I plan on using silhouettes. This simple style will leave the appearance to the readers imagination, combined with sounds and music, this hopefully will them feel more immersed in the story. Taking inspiration from an anime I like, I may set these scenes in little “stages”, using doll house furniture. I’ve decided to keep the story in its more original format. One of the reasons being that while I had some idea’s to modernize the story, like changing the ball to a prom or a club, I prefer the more classic version of the story. However, I have made a small twist in the tale. Instead of marring the Prince, Cinderella marries Buttons. This is because in all version of the story with Buttons, I feel like her cares about her more and that Cinderella marring the Prince doesn’t make sense. After all, he only just met her the night before and knows nothing about her, where as Buttons has been her friend for many years and knows her.

  5. Rough Story

  6. Once upon a time, in a far-off kingdom, lived a noble family. They had a daughter named Ella, who was as kind as she was beautiful. However, her mother passed away and was buried beneath the willow tree in their garden. Many years passed, until one day when her father meet a widow, whom he soon fell in love with and married. Ella was very happy for her father and was excited to have two new sisters, but it did not last. For you see, unaware to her father, her stepmother didn’t love her. All her kindness and care were for her own daughters. Nothing was too good for them – dresses, shoes, delicious food, soft beds, and anything else they could want. But, for Ella, there was nothing at all. When her father became ill and passed away, Ella became their servant. She was forced to cook and clean for them every day, while they tormented and teased her. Each night, Ella was made to sleep by the fireplace, which covered her in cinders each morning, giving her the nickname, Cinderella. However, not everyone one was cruel to Cinderella. Buttons, their footman, was her only friend. Each day Buttons would try to cheer her up as he helped with her chores. “Your sisters may dress in fancy clothes, but they will always be ugly on the inside. You, on the other hand, will always be beautiful no matter what you wear. Because you’re gentle and compassionate.” Button had told her once, as he washed dishes. Act one; the set up Our story opens with the classic line, “Once upon a time…”, before setting up the tale and introducing us to Cinderella.

  7. “Cinderella! I have wonderful news!” Sabastian exclaimed excitedly, as he came into kitchen one morning. “What is it Sabastian? Cinderella smiled while preparing breakfast. “It’s an invitation to a ball and all are to attend” He said, showing her the envelope. “Oh, what a wonderful time you’re going to have. Perhaps you’ll catch the Prince’s eye and he’ll rescue you from the clutches of your sisters.” Cinderella laughed, as he went on about everything that would happen to her. But as she climbed the stairs to her Stepmother’s bedroom, her smile faded. She knew her Stepmother would not allow her to go. Cinderella entered the bedroom and placed the breakfast tray on her Stepmother’s lap. “Um… Stepmother, an invitation arrived this morning. It’s for a royal ball at the palace and, well I was wondering if I might go as well” Cinderella asked nervously. Her Stepmother paused, her porridge filled spoon halfway up to her mouth. She looked up at Cinderella sternly and was about to tell Cinderella off, when an idea came to her. “I shall let you attend Cinderella, but under one condition.” Her Stepmother smile sinisterly. “If you can clean this entire house before this evening, you may go” With that, Cinderella excitedly went about completing her task and with the help of Sabastian, she quickly finished the chores. She even found one of her mother’s old dresses to wear, but when time to leave came, her dreams were quickly dashed when her Stepmother and sisters, tore apart her dress and left her behind. Act two; The conflict The invitation arrives and Cinderella goes to the ball.

  8. As soon as she was on her own, Cinderella sat by the fireside and wept. As she sat alone, there was a burst of light and a woman appeared before her. “Who are you?” Cinderella exclaimed. “Don’t be frightened, Cinderella,” said the woman. “I am your fairy godmother and I am here to take you to the ball!” “How can I dressed in rags?” Cinderella replied. “I will be turned away!” Her fairy godmother smiled warmly and waved her wand. In an instant, Cinderella was dressed in a gorgeous blue ballgown and heeled slippers made of unbreakable glass. Then her godmother guided Cinderella outside to the garden, where Sabastian was tending the pumpkin patch. “You cannot go to the ball on foot! Quickly, get me a pumpkin!” The Fairy Godmother urged Sabastian, after admiring Cinderella’s dress, hurriedly picked out one of the largest pumpkins and held it out. “Will this do?” He asked The Fairy Godmother nodded and after finding six mice, she flicked her wand once more and the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice became six white horses. “And now you only need a coachman” Her Godmother announced “Then let it be me!” Sabastian said proudly as he stepped forward. For the final time, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother waved her wand and Sabastian’s clothes were turned into an outfit fit for a Prince. He then helped Cinderella into the carriage and prepared to head to the ball, but before they left, her Godmother warned her.

  9. “You shall go to the ball Cinderella. But remember that you must leave at midnight. For that is when my spell ends. Your coach will turn back into a pumpkin, the horses will become mice again and your clothes will become as they once were! Do you understand?” Cinderella smiled, “Yes, I understand. Thank you!” Cinderella was then whisked away to the palace, but before she headed into the ball, Sabastian took her hand and kissed it gently. He wished her luck and she hurried away into the ballroom. Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball and even dance with the Prince, but when she heard the first stroke of midnight, she remembered what the fairy had said. Without a word of goodbye, she slipped from the Prince’s arms and ran down the steps. Losing one of her slippers, along the way. Unable to stop, for fear of being caught, out she fled and vanished into the night.

  10. The Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up the slipper and said to his ministers, “Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be content until I find her!” So, the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of every girl in the land until only Cinderella was left. “That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball,” snapped the stepmother. “Tell the Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Can’t you see how ugly Cinderella is?” But, to everyone’s amazement, the shoe fitted perfectly. Suddenly the fairy appeared and waved her magic wand. In a flash, Cinderella appeared in a splendid dress, shining with youth and beauty. Her stepmother and stepsisters gaped at her in amazement. Then the Prince knelt and confessed his love to Cinderella, asking for her hand in marriage. “I’m sorry your Highness, but I must refuse. For my heart already belongs to another” She told him kindly before looking at Sabastian. Who in turn gazed back lovingly. The Prince, being a fair and kind man, stood up and asked. “Though it saddens me that I cannot be yours, perhaps I may help you in another way?” And so, with the help of the Prince, Cinderella regained her family home and fortune and her cruel Stepmother and Sisters were forced to move elsewhere. A few months later, Sabastian and Cinderella got married and lived happily ever after. THE END. Act three; The conclusion Cinderella is found by the Prince, but as a small twist to the tale, she marries Buttons instead and live happily ever after.
