  2. What are we going to do? • Set up Computer id & password • Set up Google Account – same id & password • Review behavior expectations • Learn what resources are available to you and where they are located

  3. What do you need to do first? Port Passes – show them to Mrs. Callahan or Mrs. Swarr During Periods 1-8 use your classroom port pass During bring a STAR port pass Sign in on one of 3 sheets: Computer Lab Read or find a book - downstairs What if you need to use the bathroom? Or go back to your locker? Sign out and sign back in on the sheets.

  4. How do you behave while in the library? There is no talking in any of the areas of the library While looking for a book: Look up the book in Destiny on the computers downstairs Browse the shelves OR You may ask a neighbor, Mrs. Callahan or myself, quietly, for assistance Use of computers ONLYschool work can be done on the library computers. You will be asked to leave if you use the computers for any games, including educational games from your teachers’ websites 2 Printers – LMC Xerox, LMC LJ2200 for Black & White

What if the rules are not followed? • The same as in any classroom • 1 verbal warning from Mrs. Callahan OR myself • Behavior Warning and asked to leave library • Recess Detention and asked to leave library • After School Detention • Other consequences: • Most likely your homeroom teacher will not let you come to the library during STAR • Most likely you won’t be able to come down during Study Hall

  6. Borrowing Materials Review 1 week for 2012 Nutmegs 2 weeks for ALL other materials Magazines, Playaways… May borrow 5 items at one time CANNOT have ANY overdue books to borrow another one – including books for assignments – this is your responsibility!

  7. How you can use the LMC resources? • Browse the shelves • Fiction by genre call number ex. HIST AVI • Nonfiction by Dewey Decimal call number ex. 940.54 LAW • Link to library layout and have book to demonstrate • Browse and Search using Destiny – from anywhere • Library Catalog – good for research - limiters • Destiny Quest – good for what’s popular and new • WebPath Express – a research Internet search engine • Place Holds in Destiny • Materials will be delivered to your homeroom Print Resources Review Destiny + demo HOLDs

  8. How you can use the LMC resources • Go out to Research Resources • Review each resource • Demonstrate how to locate ids and passwords Research Resources Search from home! Login in to Destiny using your school id and password Search Subscription databases from home, too! Log into GW Portal to see ids and pwds

Scavenger Hunt I will do a sample of the searches • AND THEN! • Each student will have a different scavenger hunt sheet at a computer • Click on Library • Click on Catalog and BEGIN • When you done return to the Gideon Welles School Portal Page • Go downstairs to locate the books you just looked up. Return to the tables when you are done
