  1. Alternative Spring Break Trip to New Orleans One GREAT week to make one BIG difference . . .

  2. The Problem . . . Five years later, recovery from Hurricanes Katrina & Ike continues.

  3. The Problem . . . New Orleans is a patchwork quilt of completed houses, vacant lots, and houses as they were post-Katrina.

  4. The Solutions . . . Throughout the year, students from all over the U.S. give their time and energy to aid in the New Orleans’ recovery.

  5. The Solutions . . . Students like YOU taking time to improve the lives of the citizens of New Orleans.

  6. OurTrip . . . 26 Meramec students & faculty made the 13 hour drive to New Orleans to join other students in helping Operation Nehemiah restore the Lower 9th Ward.

  7. Our Trip We drove to New Orleans on Sunday, Worked and played Monday through Thursday, Then drove back on Friday.

  8. St. Margaret’s Nursing Home We worked for one day gutting a nursing home in the Lower 9th Ward that hadn’t been touched since Katrina.

  9. St. Gabriel Church We spent the next 3 days restoring an elementary school in the Upper 9th Ward. We planted a garden, replaced the gymnasium floor, and cleaned out their mold infested storage room.

  10. Accommodations We stayed in dormitories provided by Operation Nehemiah, conveniently located downtown. . They provided us with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  13. Make it Right On Thursday, an instructor from Delgado Community College gave us a tour of the Lower 9th Ward, which Brad Pitt’s Make it Right project has changed from rubble to wonderful.

  15. A New Challenge . . . After the BP oil-spill, preserving Louisiana wetlands and helping the residents of New Orleans is more crucial than ever.
