  1. Effective Activities to Motivate Speech and Language Development in Children Human being is a social and emotional being. It is not exaggeration to concede that the ability of speaking and communication determine the quality of our overall well being. Speech and communication help us as a person to make others understand what we feel or what we need. As individuals who could not do the required day to day activities, it is essential for children to develop their speech and communication skills. Few children will have this ability by birth and a few will not. And, a few children will require additional support in order to develop their language and cognitive abilities. There are many factors that could influence a child’s ability of speech and its development. It is essential for parents to recognize their children’s speech development patterns. The parents have to recognize if their child is in line with the development or require additional support. As a parent, if you observe that your toddler finding it difficult understand or showing signs of lack of development, it is highly recommended for you to consult an expert ENT specialist or ENT specialty clinic that provides speech and language therapy for kids . Your pediatric ENT specialist will devise a therapy plan based on your child’s ability to observe, understand and reply. On top of it, you could value-add to the therapy by involving your child in activities that help him or her in improving their speech and language.

  2. Continue reading further to know the activities through which you could bring a significant improvement in your child’s responsiveness towards the therapy. Start with the Simple Sounds - Start off with simple words such as ma, da, pa etc., and ensure you are facing them and their focus is on your lips. Talk to your baby as much as possible even though they are not paying attention to you in the initial stages. You will get their attention gradually.  Encourage Them to Play the Phone Thing - Children observe a lot and try to imitate the parents. They might have seen you saying hello and using phone a lot of times and try to impersonate. If you find them doing it, encourage them to say hello or little words.  Be Expressive with Babies - We have enough evidence that your baby can recognize your voice even when it was in the womb. Do not assume that they can’t understand what you are saying and remain silent with them. You should be extensively expressive in terms of both verbal and non-verbal communication to get the baby talking and learning.  Non-Verbal Communication is Pivotal - More than you verbal communication, it is the body language that delivers the intended message. Use your body at its fullest when you are talking to your baby. Making gestures and imitating what they are doing encourages them to be more expressive.  Always Repeat What They Say - It is the best way to make them understand that you understood what they are trying to communicate. Imitate their lip moment and body movement in a comical way. Continue doing this even though they ignore you initially. They will start minding and get the confidence that you understood them, eventually.  Name Will Always Help - Not just the family members but try to name the toys the baby uses. Not common names but specific names for each toy. You could also play this as a game with your kids. It helps them to distinguish and also they try to follow you by calling the toys by their given names.  Parents involvement in improving the language and speech training could not be emphasized further.
