Introduction The GATE, which is an acronym for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is an all-India exam that is administered and conducted by both Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) every year. This exam is mandatory for candidates seeking admission into PG and Ph.D. courses in both engineering and architecture.

  3. Important Dates to Bookmark • GATE is generally conducted during the first quarter of the year. • This examination is expected to be held on the 3rd or 4th of February and on February 10th and 11th in 2018. • The online application form will be available from 1 September 2017.

  4. Details of Application • Candidates can apply for GATE through the official GATE website. • Candidates need to check eligibility criteria before applying online. • The portal to apply online will be active from 1 September 2017. • The last date to apply for GATE is 5 October 2017. • Applicants can make the payment for the application fee online. • The online application form of GATE can be accessed from the regional websites of IITs. • The application fee for online registration is INR 750 for SC, ST, PwD categories and women candidates. • For other categories, the application fee is INR 1,500.

  5. GATE Examination Centre • The examination will be held at various selected centres in different cities as well as towns. • The exam will also be held in international centres like Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, Dubai, Singapore, and Kathmandu.

  6. GATE Examination Pattern GATE will be a computer based test. The exam is divided into two parts: -Part 1 –General Aptitude, which is common for all papers. -Part 2 –based on specialization. The duration of the GATE is for 3 hours. The exam will have both multiple choice questions (MCQ) as well as numerical answer type questions (NAT).

  7. Conclusion Candidates need to work hard to qualify. Though the GATE examination pattern might look simple, it is really hard to clear the cut off marks without proper preparation.
