  1. Summary of HEW SG Progress on PAR and 5C Authors: Date:2014-01-22 Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  2. Abstract This submissions summarizes HEW SG progress drafting the PAR and the 5C. Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  3. Overall Summary • The SG has completed 12 hours (6 time slots) of meeting last evening. Nine hours were 100% dedicated for the PAR discussion. • A number of submissions relevant to the drafting of the PAR + 5C were discussed. • Numerous straw polls were conducted to form opinions and reach agreements. Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  4. Submissions • 13/1410r3, “802.11 HEW Draft PAR and 5C”, Osama Aboul-Magd and All • 13/1489, “Airport Capacity Analysis”, Graham Smith (DSP Group) • 14/0026, “thoughts on hew par”, Yong Liu (Apple) • 14/0045, “E-Education Analysis”, Graham Smith (DSP Group) • 14/0058, “Pico Cell Use Case Analysis”, Graham Smith (DSP Group) • 14/0061, “Some findings from real world measurement”, Katsuo Yunoki (KDDI R&D Laboratories) • 14/0065, “Comments on Draft HEW PAR”, Sony • 14/0101, “Comments on 802.11 HEW Draft PAR & 5C”, Rakesh Taori (Samsung) • 14/106, “Discussion on HEW PAR”, KiseonRyu • 14/0119, “Suggested PAR Changes”, James Yee Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  5. Issues Discussed • Power efficiency: where it should be added to the PAR? • Relevant frequency bands: how specific should it be? • Backward compatibility and coexistence with legacy devices: all legacy devices, OFDM devices, or HT and VHT devices only. • Out door deployments: pedestrian speed. • How many times improvement: can we use numbers higher than 2 times? Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  6. Proposed Scope • This amendment defines standardized modifications to both the 802.11 physical layers (PHY) and the 802.11 Medium Access Control Layer (MAC) that enable modes of operation capable of supporting at least two (2) times improvement in the average throughput per station (measured at the MAC data service access point) in dense indoor and outdoor deployment scenarios, while maintaining or improving the power efficiency per station. • The new amendment defines operations in frequency bands between 1 GHz and 6 GHz. The new amendment shall enable backward compatibility and coexistence with legacy IEEE 802.11 devices operating in the same band. Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)

  7. Where The SG is Now? • Draft PAR and 5 C is available on mentor: https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/13/11-13-1410-06-0hew-802-11-hew-draft-par-and-5c.docx • Motions to approve the PAR and the 5C are scheduled for Wednesday PM2. Osama Aboul-Magd (huawei Technologies)
